Potential Desync Fix
I noticed something potentially revolutionary today. Tested this on and off for about an hour now, with distinct results.
Disclaimer: Don't flame me for my ignorance in case this is well-known. With all chats off, desync appears to plague my character every 5 seconds, even with <50 ping. I turned on trade chat, joined trade 1, which is usually the highest traffic one, and each time someone said something, it automatically resynced my character. This makes me really happy. Is this done intentionally? Can I get someone from GGG to comment on this "discovery"? |

Confirmed. However, enabling trade chat 1 caused a nasty side effect for me. My FPS dropped from stable 60 FPS to anything between 1-50 FPS. I don't want to sound mean but now is the time to hire some professionals to work on your code GGG.
What's your pleasure, sir?

Yeah, I can confirm what you said about FPS becoming erratic. This should be avoidable on higher/est end PCs. Also, enabling global helps too, but it doesn't resync as often due to people not speaking as much.
This has saved my life, which is why I wanted to share it with everyone! |

The opposite seems to be true in standard softcore league. Chatter exacerbates desync-- or perhaps there isn't enough chat to force resync?

Still waiting on a GGG representative comment, at your convenience of course.

" I'm honestly not sure if you're going to get a direct response or comment from a GGG employee. I don't know their network protocol well enough to say for sure that there is any actual relevance, or if it is just coincidental (correlation vs causation)... but from a networking perspective, it could make sense that the chatter is somehow sending packets with the chatter that is causing you to resync. *shrug* if it works for you, use it. Not sure there is much else to say on the topic however as it's purely speculative (although decently supported in your case)... and I don't think you'll get an official response on it. Sorry. |

Really? This could be BIG. I hope they examine the packet flow with Wireshark-like depth, and implement a silent background script that does this. The one currently in place creates too much network bloat, and does the opposite from the intended effect, unless one is on gigabit LAN with the game servers.
Screw it, I'll do it myself. This sounds like a 30 minute python project, I'm tired of desync crap. I don't want to have to have my chat spammer in order for it to be even minutely playable. Many skills that require constant acks, like cyclone, break the game, desyncing every time. |

I don't think this would have gone unnoticed for so long though...
They've said they don't want to program timed resyncs due to the fact that there would be a lot of rubber-banding when the client wasn't very out of sync...rubber-banding that would be worse than the desync itself. If they programmed the chat to do this, it would cause as much rubber-banding. You are actually desynced a lot more often than you think, but most of the time you don't notice unless you type /oos and rubber-band 2 inches. This may be the resync-on-stun code causing coincidences, I'll have to test this out when I get home. |

" Yeah, it works as the same way me too... |

" Holy Moly! Crazy raisins! That's the most bogus excuse for not fixing a game-breaking bug that's been plaguing PoE for so long!!!!! I'm still hoping for GGG reply to give feedback, or clarify some things. |
