New Tech from GGG- The desync emulator.
" This I am unsure of. I assume they send NPC locations and the NPCs simply go there via prediction. I assume that they send attack messages to the client and the outcome at the same time, so I am unsure why a creature would attack and the damage and blood spray would occur either too early or very late. It'd be great if you could record a video of it happening, or any other out of order animations. If you have account problems please Email Support

I'm a get-what-you-give kind of guy, which isn't always the best modus operandi for a moderator of a forum but I think it's pretty good for this forum. I've said before I'd never moderate any other community, and I stand by that, precisely because I feel that however I'm going about it here seems to work most of the time and most likely wouldn't work anywhere else.
I reviewed Nemesis5858's posting history to make sure I wasn't misremembering (why does spellcheck want that to be 'dismemberment'?) but no, the jadedness and bitterness has been building to posts like this for a while. Even after his thread on desync (not this one, one of the better ones) actually got a dev response, and a very good response at that. A better explanation for desync than I'd have expected, and certainly a more honest one than you'd get many other places. I acknowledge nemesis5858's caustic attitude and his stance, but still find it a tad annoying in light of the above. Just what do people expect GGG to do? 'Fix it' is a nice thing for us to say but do you honestly think if they could 'fix it', right now, they wouldn't? The complexity of the situation is evident at every turn, but we still get people harping on about it as though it's not already a significant concern for both devs and testers. Such harping on serves no purpose and is thus, in my books, trolling. But it's so utterly ineffectual as trolling I can't even bring myself to do much other than make a snide remark in response. Which I did, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. These sorts of posts are horribly inferior to those, I reckon. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Oct 14, 2012, 10:51:56 PM

" Fix is a horrible request in regard to desync. It's just an unfortunate fact that it will exist as long as Internet infrastructure doesn't go quantum (maybe by 2025 if we're lucky!). Hence why I wish people would change their nomenclature to "alleviate" from "fix it". A much, much better (and realistic) term for what we need prior to OB release. " Sorry Chris my mistake, i should have called it the re- sync emulator! Re- sync beening what causes you to snap from one place on the screen to another in the blink of an eye, or in other words rubberbanding. Now you have harnessed the power of Re-sync and armed brutus with this most destructive force..... a stroke of genius.... you are a true master of cybermancey... i take my hat off to you sir. Just a thought on a 'fix' for this situation which no doubt GGG have considered, but not mentioned, in the Desync threads - Put more of the game mechanics client side, atleast in regards to player/mob interaction. I don't know if this is possile without a major overhaul but it might help further alleviate this problem. And Charan..... maybe you should try some chamomile tea 8). Bring me my bow of burning gold Bring me my arrows of desire..... If i am a troll who is no troll who then is the troll? http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/53626 }:) 'I rise from the ashes of my own defeat, only to be smitten down again...' - Some poor soul. I really dont know why you guys complain about desync so much I play from South Africa and have a ping of 230 on a good day so I would expect that I would have epic desync and I dont really have it that bad, yes once in a while my staff templar kills a zombie 10m away from me(I personally think its just because I'm that good:P) and other times a massive stone golem ninja appears out of nowhere. The thing is I know its gonna happen so I play extra safe. I played the ladder race this weekend and almost got to level 20 mostly solo and then I was in a rush, only had to ninja exit to login screen once to avoid desync death.
On the game staff matter I think you are being overly sensitive or something, most of my experiences with staff have been quite good so other than Charan ignoring me flat in game when i asked a question or two I quite like the staff. So if you want a game with no desync and staff that never say anything please go play TOG we will not miss your negative attitude. |

@Cr0zz
I have a mostly consistent 49-51ms latency and experience desync very frequently. Most* people are not being negative to be negative about this desync problem. We care. And because we care, we bring it to the devs' attention. And because we don't want this game to fall flat on its face if Chris really does intend to wait on addressing desync in Open beta, we complain ferociously. * Most does not mean all... Just covering my bases here. :P "In a state of physical balance and security, power, intellectual as well as physical, would be out of place."

I know and if I thought I was the first one to notice it I would post a thread on it in the forum however it has been discussed alot on the forums and I'm pretty sure by this time desync to Chris is like my wife finding a spider in the house screams,shivering and tears.
The OP was not being constructive in any sense and then started going after the game staff, that's what I meant by negative:) Chris has made a formal reply on this quite a while ago that they are aware of the problem and also that it can never be completely fixed but they would try their best to reduce it to a tolerable level. In the mean time assume all melee weapons have a chance of increased range for one hit, your character has cancer and can die at any moment for no good reason and ninja monsters exist:P O and I think the extra server load increases the problem aswell:) had a bit more trouble with desync in the race just not OMG I hate GGG desync:D |

Chris stated on a stream with Kripp that the "desync problem" would be a month long endeavor (or more) involving all of their core engineering team, to address. GGG has ALREADY delayed OB to December. Pushing it back another month will violate their "promise of promises" that this game will be live in 2012.
In an ideal world, GGG would break their promise (or magically keep it and fix desync). But I don't expect them to. It's a tough call, but I'm confident desync issues will only improve as time goes on. Believe me, it's annoying when you die due to desync - but it happens to everybody else. I'd much rather they implement Act 3 and PVP for us to beta test, get more active skills out, THEN fix desync, than drop everything right now and fix it, ultimately delaying the OB release. I growl unspeakable words at the current desync situation every time a goddamned 950 latency spike decides to attack me. But that's it. I see no reason to whine on the forums because it will not hasten the solution to the widely recognized problem.
I will continue to growl curses unknown to mortals, my monitor is surely corrupt by now from hearing them, but both me and my monitor (Eizo) know that major issues like that take time to solve. Be ready. You're not paranoid, you're PREPARED.
I quit this game every few months and so should you to continue playing it in the future. The device is believed to have been dropped |
