What was Diablo 2's endgame for you?

I'm confused as to what the D2 veterans here think the endgame in D2 was.

I used to think endgame was PvP, but a lot of people here think it wasdoing baal runs to get better items to do more baal runs to do more baal runs.

Edit: Compared to Poe-Endgame, it was a joke. In Poe you can usually run continuosly 66-70 maps, whereby every map differs from each other.

The PvE in D2 was laughable 99% of the time.

The second I found Median, D2 was no more. (I found Median in 08)

Doing baal runs to either pk people or watch xp leechers die in the corner to gloams. The rage afterwards rarely dissapointed. The PVM portion of me really enjoyed racing to clear the chaos sanctuary before the better geared baal bots/groups got to wave 4/5 in throne room.

I also spent a lot of time in Tals tombs. Not only was it aesthetically pleasing, but I seemed to have crazy luck there.
