PoE Vs Diablo 3 new expansion

I'm Not sure if this is the right place to say this but:

Having completed all D2 and D3 + torchlight 1 and 2; I was so impressed with this beta of POE that I actually bought the BETA SUPPORTER PACK (I don't know if that is what it is actually called) and I think it well worth the $30 USD.

I enjoy playing this beta release more so than I enjoyed D3 or T1 and T2. It is gritty, moody, and it is sometimes down-right creepy. I hope the Devs remain well-funded to make a living at this and continue to release content for this game.

GREAT JOB and THANK YOU for a great game!!

@Z0D: Framedrops are on me? No, you are not informed obviously

@Everybody pretending that D3 is all that different: It is not, in both games you better buy all your items. In both games there is no build diversity, the only diversity is the skill you use.
D3's gameplay is just way better.

And also, I am not some guy who just installed PoE, I have been buying myself into closed beta.

You made a choice by giving money to GGG, nobody forced you to, I personally play since closed beta without spending any money and since I do enjoy the gane I am considering giving money actually, but thats my choice and I respect both givers and free players.

Also D3 was made by one of the biggest and oldest game studio, PoE is made by GGG who did not released any game to date with obviously not the same ressources.

If one day D3 is free to play I will probably give it a try, for 50 bucks + expansion, no thanks.
If you played well into closed beta you're probably just a bit tired of it, play something else for a while and come back in a couple of months, PoE will still be there and ~probably~ an even better game then it is now.

While it isn't perfect and some of the faults are pretty glaring, it is free, with pretty much no moneygrubbing basic functionality limitations many other f2p games have. Hell, I rarely donate money to free games but I gladly gave some cash to these guys, 'donate' in the sense I don't really give a rat's ass about cosmetics and my amount of playing doesn't really require a 20-page stash, it was more out of goodwill than anything else.

But Bliz, on the other hand, ain't getting another dime from me that easy. Thank god for D3 open beta weekends, I almost preordered it, was really impressed with some things but the skill system downright killed it for me.

I think Diablo III was mostly good for playing through once or twice. It was even fun and Act I up to the Skeleton King is really great and goes a bit downhill from there. Act II Dalgur Oasis and some of the hidden ruins are also great (and my girlfriend likes the cave levels very much). Act III is mostly horrible, the end is quite nice, though.
Act IV is nicely made but a bit short.

If it wasn't Diablo, I might actually dislike it less, but since I already found that Diablo II was not as good as I (gameplay was better in most respects, but the atmosphere was just not so great), III was a real disappointment from a Diablo perspective.

I'm really glad I didn't buy it when it was released but got it for half the price in November. I think I began playing PoE in February and thought, considering how much more I enjoy it, giving GGG what I payed for DIII was only fair.

Good luck with Diablo 3. Hopefully you'll change your mind and come give POE another try when the full game is released.
PoE ruined every single ARPG for me on the market. It's just that much better than everything else out there imo.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

There's that too. I quite liked TL2, a really solid old-school looter, just can't seem to be able to put any significant amount of time in it.

By sheer complexity, probably the only game in the genre able to at least hold a candle to this one is Sacred 2, and a lot of that comes from lack of detailed (and often vital) info on combat arts and its modifications. They also share a certain, shall we say 'quirkyness' in basic concept, here you got an innovative potion, skill and passive tree system while Sacred series have an unusual struggle with cooldown instead of mana, one of the first combat art modification systems and an open world map, its survival bonus probably inspired the paragon system in D3. If you look at it in perspective, D3 borrowed quite liberally from S2.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

if you cant see the difference between poe and d3 you probably dont get arpgs at all
theres many, many builds and variations in this game, Id bet at least 10x as many as D3.

The crafting system drives me nuts, the mapping system has some major problems, for sure. But the loot in this game is far better than D3, finding anything in D3 atm is an absolute joke, and it actually has a mapping system and a crafting system, unlike D3.

Will the ones they add be better than PoE? I doubt it because theres virtually no builds or mechanics in that game to support it long term. Itll be fun for a few weeks, then the gear will saturate and all the skill combos will be found and it will just be grinding in hope of million to one amazing drop that will allow you to take part in an item economy dominated by bots.

D3 is a toy, theres no escaping it.

Yesterday me and a friend just facerolled the shit out of some fairly ugly lvl74 maps, he was playing a life based 1 handed mace melee build, I was playing an aegis CI crit dagger witch and we destroyed content with sickening ease. Melee works, its like everything in PoE, takes a little time, a little gear, a little know how, a little skill, not a ton but enough that a lot of people fail somewhere along the way. I had melee builds that didnt work, I made new builds, they didnt work either, so I made some more... I now have a lot of melee builds that work and deal crazy faceroll damage.

My opinion atm is that armour/ev hybrid with crit daggers is a very strong melee choice. It took me a bit of tweaking before I even made it viable, now it owns way beyond its gear weight. Yet people talk about melee like Iron Reflex/Unwavering Stance/Res Tech Ground Slammers and Cleavers are all melee has to offer. I think theres a lot more diversity in this game than most people are aware of, including me. PoE has grown a huge amount while D3 has sat stagnant taking notes on how to make a game.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

problem with these "melee sucks" players are that they completely lack fantasy and competence to figure out their own functioning build. they just listen to the "this is the only thing that works" crowd. and if they try to make their own custom melee build they dont realize that every fresh build is gonna fail a few times before it becomes viable. these people dont wanna do that, they just want to no brain a build and faceroll

hence they play d3
