Customized Renaming of Weapons & Armor

It would add an item sink to the game.

Not that I would use it (I might be wrong) but it is a way to make money without having the art-team work for it.

I don't see why there should be any name restrictions at all. You're using it on your own gear, and someone on the other side of the trade has to accept the item, given name and all. So yes, if someone wants my 200ipd, +30phys, +20aspd sword "The Micropenis", they're more than welcome to trade for it.

More interestingly, mirroring a named item propagates that name through the ages, like a player-made unique item.

Yes! Creating a story, a lineage associated with your item is an important aspect of this idea.

The upcoming wipe has encouraged me to sell all my early gear which I wont use again.
Letting go of my top daggers & shields is ALOT harder than I assumed. I have not used them in months, yet they retain a certain amount of adoration. The ability to rename my daggers would make them easier to let go of. I just cant trade top shelf items if they are gonna get tossed into a stash tab & forgotten.

Easy solution:

Make the "item rename orb" a reward for first (or first few) places in ladder races.

This is the most convenient controlled and glorified way of distributing this functionality to the community. The best of the best players get it, and they have the right to rename the best of their gear or trade them off for huge profits to wealthy players with even more godly gear waiting to be renamed.

With that method, you can mitigate things like "random people looting the orb due to luck, and renames random item as BBQWTFSAUCE".

I was pretty sure it would be 100% gameshop purchases (non-balance affecting, cosmetic, and a fun way to personalize your character).
I'm sure they could be handed out to event winners as well (just like handing out free gameshop points).
