Is POE 2 Going to be realesed roughly around Diablo 4?
both of these announcements, 3 years ago? were pretty lame. Don't announce something huge like that and a few years later it's like you forgot about it.
They are probably waiting to time it around the D4 release to compete with it maybe, I dunno. Pretty lame if you ask me, all that hype is gone. We'll still play it, but we won't be nearly as hyped after this long of a wait after that presentation years ago. |

I dont know about "lame".
However there is something definitely amusing about showing a small trailer with the Ranger turning into an oversized housecat (or maybe that's normal size in NZ), and watching folks get into a froth mouth lather. No idea if it will be released around Diablo 4. It is definitely in the minds of lead developers at GGG as I recall them mentioning that PoE2 will be their answer to Diablo 4 and there's a precedent with Cyberpunk.
At the moment Path of Exile is still the most relevant arpg on the market - there's Lost Ark but it's sort of a blend of mmorpg and arpg. Lost Ark did pull a good many players from Archnemesis but having followed its release through Asmongold videos I don't expect it will have long-term appeal with PoE players as it's blatantly p2w and restrictive with its dailies model. I'm content knowing GGG are working hard on PoE2 - that somewhere down the track I'm going to be blown away by it - and in the meantime they're releasing leagues every 3-4 months which provide something new and refreshing while also attempting to polish / fix existing content. That's way more effort than most games I've played and I appreciate it. Also they're endlessly looking to hire skilled employees - nearly every interview with Chris Wilson seems to have a 'We're Hiring' promotion at the end... so they're trying their best with the resources at hand. In conclusion it's not like PoE is abandonware with minimalist updates. GGG have an excellent track record for content development and should take all the time they need to make PoE2 the game we keep playing for another 10 years. I don't have much hope for Diablo 4 (other than its kickass cinematics) as Blizzard releases have been awful and uninspired for a decade now. In an era where many unscrupulous game developers infect their games with predatory monetization elements- I feel GGG exemplifies the fairest and most inclusive business model (other than loot boxes which I feel are exploitative by nature) while also delivering the biggest and best game for my most played genre - to me that's worth supporting! Guys, do any of you even remember how it was for D3?
Between the time it was first announced to the time it was on the shelves, over half a decade passed From what we saw from poe2, it is still either in something like late alpha or it will be EXTREMELY samey with what we currently have(not that it is a bad thing, i just commented on another topic i very much think poe2 exist for the sole reason of making pretty much the same-ish game but without the terrible legacy base-coding that makes poe be such a bloated clunky mess of a hardware vampire) D4 we barely have anything at all, there even was a gameplay footage on the last blizzcon? From what i know Blizz could have very much decided to announce the game earlier than antecipated to cover the fiasco of DI |

" Diablo 4 is basically like Lost Ark in that it's going to be an isometric MMORPG and I don't envision my Diablo experience being that great when I'm exploring an open world running into other players, that really isn't a return to darkness to me as much as it's making the game less dark as there is people around holding your hand. Yes, in Diablo 4 you can choose to play it solo instead of as an MMO but then you're unable to fight world bosses and I'd imagine there'll be dungeons you cant solo which forces you to have to play its MMO elements. It's almost like they're trying to make World of Diablo which to me the franchise doesn't work as an mmorpg and I don't really have any interests in playing it. As for Path Of Exile, there being lootboxes doesn't matter to me because GGG is fair about it as in they eventually release those cosmetics for direct purchase. I can't call that exploitative by nature in the case of GGG's approach. Last edited by firenovix#6291 on Apr 12, 2022, 11:41:12 PM

Hard to say what GGG's plan is here.
Do you release PoE2 before or after D4 and how long before or after? Releasing a good while before means you get the spotlight all for yourself without interference from D4 until its release. The negative is that you risk the "honeymoon" phase of PoE2 to be over when D4 comes and will take a lot of the spotlight/players for a while after. Releasing very close to D4. That means you have to compete head to head. I dont see this as a very good idea for GGG. It's a big risk. PoE2 from what we have seen can actually pass as a big expansion as PoE1. Its not a "new" game per se. While D4 is brand new built from scratch. Releasing a good while after D4. Which is the opposite of releasing before. You hope that the D4 honeymoon is over, and can retake back lost ground which PoE will loose to D4 if released after. Problem with this is that IF D4 is amazing it could be hard to get back all the players even for PoE2. In any case i hope Blizz and GGG talks so they release leagues and season in good timing so i can play both. 45 days of PoE then 45 days of D4 and so on. Thats typically how long i play a PoE league anyway. |

Release window depends on the quality of D4 tbh, if you think its short lived after is better if not and you think you have a superior product before.
I wouldn't want to make the call though, easiest is probably when its ready lol |

People have to remember that D4 vs PoE2 also represents a monetization model battle.
If D4 sells 15-20 million copies in the quarter its released it pays for all the seasons and live sevice form that point forward. (Elden Ring sold 12 million in 3 weeks for perspective) PoE2 isnt a paid expansion. All the resource costs need to be offset by many subsequent sucessful league launches. It has to be fucking anxiety city at GGG. Personally I think they must compete head to head. If they launch first, it will be totally swallowed by D4's release. If they launch well after... hell they might be financially finished at that point. Its not a good scenario either way tbh. What they really need is for D4 to be complete trash... which ain't happening imo.
