Is POE 2 Going to be realesed roughly around Diablo 4?

Offtopic but does it seem weird to anyone else that PoE2 has as long a development cycle as an entire new game (5+ years) but appears to just replicate the acts, have no new endgame, have a mild graphics re-hash and some new weapon types/skills?

Im not judging it as good or bad, but the info we have so far is that it has the content of ... maybe two largish leagues?

I know, it will be an unpopular opinion. But tell me you would be shocked watching this and being told it was a trailer for 3.18

It's not a new game.

This.

Why would anyone expect a radically different game? Chris has always planned for Path of Exile to be a game that never dies and just expands.

Exactly.

My question is just curiosity why the dev cycle is as long as a new game since ... its not a new game.

Don't really find it weird, no.

They've been pretty clear on the fact that PoE 2 is a step to keep up with the competition (D4). When D4 comes out, they need a huge reaction. They will of course lose in terms of numbers no matter what, but how would it look if they didn't release PoE 2 roughly at the same time as D4?

GGG is also a one IP company. PoE is their bread and butter. It has to come first, especially with their chosen monetization model. It's their only source of income. They can't just put it on "maintenance mode" while they shift all their resources towards PoE 2.

They aren't rushing PoE 2 because they have no reason to.

Ahhh...makes sense, maybe POE2 is done already, they are just waiting for D4 to be released.
it seems like they've been trickling pieces of PoE2 all throughout the past year, actually. the expedition enemies, maybe even the "alternate wraeclast" from the last league, storywise...
the culling of old and underperforming mechanics...

Its not an entire crew working on PoE2 but merely a fraction of the team, the vast majority is likely assigned to handle the regular daily business.
Not being able to hire due to worldwide events in past 2 years isnt helping either.

Assuming for the sake of the argument about 20% of the entire team does work on PoE2 a 5 year production cycle would be equivalent to 1 year workload the entire team would be able to handle, if they abondened the daily business on focused on PoE2 only.

Thats not an option for obvious reasons, so 5 years seems reasonable to me.

They have - and they told us at Exilecon that they would. We also see it on new NPCs and their chat windows.

PoE 2 is coming. Not this year, and probably not next year. But to think that PoE 2 will drastically change how anyone perceives the game and go from "not liking the game" to "liking the game", is just setting yourself up for failure. PoE will still be PoE, with its strengths and weaknesses.

"90%" (number out of my ass) of players view the endgame as "the real game". And the endgame will (as far as we know) be the same. Sure, we'll have a couple of endgame expansions before PoE 2, but the core will be the same. And yes, the META might change due to some interesting itemization changes, but - again - PoE will still be PoE.

Since PoE depends heavily on first week(s) player numbers and MTX sales the games should be at least 2 weeks apart, since thats the threshold the SC/trade league players have cleared all content and got 36/40.

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks
