What Happens to Your Standard Atlas in 3.16

I like the idea of less maps to grind... but maps don't like to drop commonly enough anyway, so I will probably stonewall in the late yellow tiers as per usual until I get bored because you cannot consistently climb and buying maps on trade is lol and shouldn't ever be required tbh. The balancing of map drops shouldn't take trade into account.

As an ssf player, I usually have 100s of red maps per tier midway through the league. Are you running your maps unrolled or something? Maybe skipping boss kills?

Map drops are abysmal and totally random.

I too have issue with this for leagues on end. The funny thing, my guidlie is getting maps galore. I play a map and get nothing to 1 map (on a very rare occasion 2 or 3 max then back to nothing). They play a map and avg 3 maps and have runs with 5 and 6 maps dropping.

At a point I done a whole spreadsheet. Rolled maps, max qualities, scarabs, fragments, sextants, what have you, and at the end I was around as many maps as I started with but overall lower tiers in count.

Talk about a silly frustrating mechanic based on RNG. The end game mode should play into itself. There should be a map drop guaranteed at the very least on every boss kill even without juicing the map and 0% quality. Anything beyond that should simply add to this. The end game mode, again, should play into itself. Not create situations where people like me have the luck of a monkey and need to spend more currency than they make just to have almost the same amount of maps drop as the ones they play no matter what they throw at it.

Luckily my guild members do not share the same luck and toss maps over to me so I can actually play the bloody game. They look at my map tabs and feels sorry when theirs are packed to the brim.

Another amazing well thought out mechanic from GGG. /sarcasm

Well, it took them like what was it, 4 years? To finally come up with a way to make ascendancy progression (an actual character progression mind you) work with some forced RNG allowing us to create our own trials. Maybe in a few more years they will figure out how to fix their laughable randomness in map drops as well.
I will a make a true comment instead of the general one word comment.

I do not understand why you would think it is a good idea to "gut" the atlas for Standard players? You should not change the major thing that makes "PoE" stand out from the others. Don't make this game for casual players because that is not what we want and it seems you are trying to make it for the casual players. Another game which I do not want to say with the number "Three" did that and lost players because it because a game for "Casual Players".

The players in the standard are for "longevity" and not for speed. I can understand about the leagues which only last a couple months and the need to have a shorten atlas before the next league.

So, do not shorten the atlas to make it quicker for the standard players. Like I said, it is "playability" and "longevity" is the most interesting thing about standard league.

Consider making it a choice to play "an extended standard league", just to see how many players are actually using it instead of the shorten standard league (bad idea).

I have lots of maps in Standard. It is a great place to just play the game and have fun.

how dare you delete the sextants i used on my watchstones. Do you not respect the time it took me to pick them up and apply them? i want a refund
Huge fan of this great job of setting expectations.

All games could take a note from this type of communication.

Thank you GGG.

Great, i'm looking forward to the Atlas rework. I just hope that Maven and boss rush won't totally disappear from the game...

Okay, so less regions with less watchstones which allows to fight Sirus earlier.
This also means the remaning 4 regions will get some extra passives to compensate for the removed ones.

Good step in the right direction but this new sandwich approach (since 3.9) with multiple layers of maps in regions is imo more grindy than old Atlas.
But from the looks it may get a little better and lean to the old approach when it gets condensed down next year with less maps overall.

Wait... there is ppl playing Standard yet in 2021?
Amazing

A very large portion. The only mode worth playing when a league is crap and pointless rinse repeat "lets complete 180 maps again for no reason" with zero tested so called "balancing"... (which also affects Standard but at least there you got the currency and player resets to make a crap league still work)

In fact, the amount of new players that check this game out and drop it like a brick are significantly more when they hear from some people like you that League is all that should be played and find zero reason to stick around and lose all their progress in an RPG mind you to do it all again for no reason at all half the time.

And what is the amazing addition of a league? A new mechanic each time that is repeated to the death each map/instance to the point of boredom? Oh, the amazing "fresh start". Yeah, the only people that care so much about fresh starts are people that need a competitive nature in a PVE game (LOL) to compensate for something else. The rest of us simply enjoy this fresh start once in a while for something different. Reach maps. And if the league is lackluster then go back to standard once more to play a real rpg mode and not a seasonal dead end.

Each to their own.

Imagine. There are people that play standard indeed.
There are also single player games too in 2021. Sounds like you are the kind of person that needs someone to herald that information to them as well.

Carry on :)

Thanks for the passive-aggressive explaining... and total lack of sarcasm insight! ;)
Not a top 1% player here but also not a casual. When a new league is out I spend pretty much all of my spare time playing. I am a bit worried about the faster atlas set up because I like the feeling of progression of the current atlas.

Completing new maps and objectives to get the chance for a higher tier map to drop as high as possible. At the point where my atlas is like 162/164 and I have a bunch of the blue watchstones it is starting to become a bit of a chore. The only sense of progression is from defeating the conquerors and doing Sirus again. Once you have the maven's quest unlocked that gives a nice thing to do of course but when you have the passives unlocked for the uncharted realms that is done as well.

Doing tons of maps in order to get better blue watchstones isn't that interesting so this is usually when my interest in the league starts to drop fast. When the atlas is "nearly done" I ask myself.... "why should I farm for more currency"? I know for a lot of people the fun actually starts when the atlas is set up but there have to be more people for whom the atlas is the real endgame and the sense of progression it gives when completing a new map, new atlas objective or new awakening objective.

I really hope I will not be done with the league faster because of this change.
