Ultimatum One-Shots back.

I've also died kiting some rares and know they were not close enough to hit me, but died to them anyway because the server probably had me a few steps behind.

This has been one of my biggest frustrations with the game.


This or perhaps the altar wave bug thing described earlier.

edit: Remember GGG used to claim there was no bug involved in rubber-banding when client and server would get out of sink. It was just the way predictive synching worked, at least that was the story. So they finally implemented lockstep mode and while implementing that they found and fixed the rubber-banding bug. This could be a similar elusive bug that they just haven't found.

I think that the "wave" is tied to monsters spawning. I don't know what it does, whether it's just an indication that stuff is spawning, or if it's buffing the mobs somehow, but it always seems to pulse out just as a new batch of monsters spawn.

The monsters seem to be able to attack before you can even see them. I've been one-shot by mobs that I couldn't see yet, and I only know that they were there to begin with because I played with a friend - he didn't die, so I got to see the mobs become visible, whereas they'll despawn on my death when I'm solo.

Getting stunned is also extremely dangerous. That's what usually kills me.
Just died to it again in stand in stone circles, nothing on screen and the altar did in fact blow up before i died. So unless theres visual desync of me dying before the altar blows, i still do not have any idea what is going on or why this is happening but im about done with running these, of course, while not recording again.

I broke, i sent GGG an email with a bug report number because clearly theres something fucked going on which i have no explanation for whatsoever. Maybe that can look at the logs they have and tell me what the fuck is killing me in these instances where nothings on screen and i get one shot.

I want to go to 100 but i just dont think i have the patience anymore at this point between frame spike deaths, d/c deaths and these one shots that i have no fucking clue how theyre even happening with an empty screen. Its like 60 maps per 10% at 98 now or something close to that, Ultimatums playing a huge role in that EXP so skipping them when they have a maps worth of experience essentially doubles that number.

Edit - Yeah probably just going to reroll. This isnt the fastest clearer and if i cant even understand whats killing me inside ultimatums theres simply no point continuing with it. Can do everything and not die except when the game apparently decides otherwise when in an ulti.

Edit 2 - Also on a beyond map again so im assuming this is no coincidence. Theres simply no way for me to test this because theres a complete lack of consistency with it. Im starting to think its an invisible corpse explosion from beyond packs exploding corpses that are "phased" out after monsters die or something similar. The only thing that could possibly deal that much damage would have to be an extra monster life corpse explosion on one of the ultimatum rares.

Just an FYI...

You can get comparable xp running harbinger on Valdo T16 and not doing the ultimatums. I made that switch at 96, I think, because I was dying in ultimatums.

Not speaking to your issue here. Just an alternative, if you're interested.
Figured it out just now with testing, one of my original suspicious was true. Its beyond corpse exploding corpses that arent supposed to be there, they corpse explode the massive life pool ultimatum monsters resulting in a one-shot. So id avoid rolling beyond if you plan on doing Ultimatum. Just finished testing this on my Gladiator. Soo im guessing whatever "corpse" phasing they have has bugged interactions with beyond. If you have some way to remove corpses like an explosion chest, shatter, etc its likely youll never experience this. So if you do decide to run it, you need to have corpse removal.

Problem solved. Big oversight however.
