Your computer is probably too awesome. Press F1 to see your FPS. If it's over 60, try turning on Vsync in the options menu to limit it.

Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't make much sense in my opinion. If the computer's config is too good for the game ( I told the config in my initial thread post), then it should never reach temperatures even close to those that I encountered. There is something wrong here with the game/client, mainly because I reached those temperatures even while being in a different window ( alt tab), which never happens even when playing more resource demanding games such as Battlefield 3 or Witcher 2.

Also, the fps is around 47-50 ( checked with Fraps)

I think you missed something here....They cannot get into the game.

It worked perfectly, instantly connected! Thank you very much!

Edit: Now I get stuck at "Contacting server" ingame, when I try to log in ( zone - Europe)

Is there a way to access the same port I did when patching the game up?

So they cannot check the FPS.

Not necessarily true. I used Fraps to check it.

Yeah, I don't have a solution for that. Maybe Thomas knows.

:(

Please do ask him to pay a visit to this thread then.

You mean after you've selected your character and try to enter the game?

Unfortunately there's no way to use a different port for the game servers. The game servers are assigned a random port between 32768 - 61000. There's currently no reasonable way for us to provide an alternative to that.

I would suggest you attempt to contact whoever is in charge of your dorms internet and see if they can add a firewall exception, although given that it's a pretty big port range I'm not sure how happy they would be about it. If they are willing, the complete list of outgoing ports that should be allowed is:

80
8095
12995
20481
and the range 32768 - 61000

Failing that, the only other thing I can think of is if you manage to get a VPN out of your dorm and run the game through that - although I can't personally suggest any VPN providers.
No, it's right when I have to enter my email and password. I didn't get to choosing my character yet.

Unfortunately, the man running the network at my dorm is a complete moron who has no idea how to run a network, so talking to him won't help ( tried it before).

Well then, that is something outside of GGG control.

I still find it ODD, that you can connect to the patching server by assigning the IP addie, since if it were blocked at the Router, it should still have blocked it.

Its like you have a PROXY setup.

Idiots dont leave 1 port open while closing all others in the same group. They close everything.
OS: WinXP SP2 32bit
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 3800+

GPU: ATI HD4670 1GB

Yes, that's exactly what they did. Somehow, they closed every possible port ( tested).

But I did follow Thomas' suggestion and got a very good VPN. Seeing that he avoided suggesting one, I assume that it's not allowed to do it on the forum publicly, so if anybody has a similar problem to mine PM me. Now the game works, and I have encountered another issue:

New issue here:

My FPS rates spike extremely often. With every setting on high and v-sync on, the frames jump over 60 up to 90 or more ( or so the ingame FPS meter says, the one activated with F1) and above so much that it causes screen tearing every time I move ingame ( and the latency is around 60-70, constant mostly). While sitting still, everything is alright. The problem appeared after arriving in the first town, on the beach up until I reached it, everything was alright.

Is there a way to lock the FPS at 60? I can't seem to find it that option in the ingame menu.

Edit: I did restart the game twice, had the same problem. After going in the third time, apparently the problem disappeared.

They have talked about locking the FPS to around 30, so look for that in another patch.

You can try turning on Vsync. It may help.

Glad to hear it worked, and actually I just haven't tried any VPN providers so couldn't personally recommend one. Feel free to suggest one if you've had a good experience with it =)

That is kind of strange, having vsync on *should* lock your frame rate to 60 (assuming that's your refresh rate)... you could try forcing vsync on for PoE in your video cards control panel (I'm more familiar with the nvidia one, but I assume the ATI panel has the option too).
@Rhys: I did turn it on, like I said.

Oh I see. Well, this one should be absolutely perfect for anybody who wants a VPN to play any online games ( just to play online games):

https://www.privatetunnel.com

You only get 100 MB of download for each email address( you can make as many as you want), but if you are in Europe you can get access to the Zurich server in Sweden, a server which is extremely expensive in every other VPN I found, and for good reason. My latency, fromm Romania, was averaging at around 60. Also, those 100 MB should be spent in 2-3 days if you play a lot, which isn't too bad.

I think that now I know what's the issue with the V-sync, and why it didn't lock the framerate to 60. I have the new 301.24 beta driver from Nvidia, which incorporates their new adaptive v-sync technology, which is a way of saying that the v-sync is only used when needed therefore it may have been the v-sync turning on and off at a high rate that caused the screen tearing.

Interesting... can you disable the adaptive v-sync, and does that fix the problem?
