Why Cronk's Test is Inconclusive - The Stats
" The same can be said with non wand weapons as well, Physical and elemental damage the above sword is useless for my physical crit duelist build but it would be great for a elemental cleave templar. Abyssus Crit Cleave - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/381106

No, it's not 'useless', it just less useful. it is a melee weapon which has some physical attack damage attached to it which a Duelist of any kind could find 'use' with as an off-hand weapon until a better one arose, the elemental bonuses and speed bonuses making up for the lack of crit mods.
A witch who finds a 'useless' wand, really does find a 'useless' wand, as in the slot could be empty and it would make no difference. Wands for spellcasters are accessories, not weapons. It's most comparable to a Belt, only with more potentially abstract mods. |

" Dont wands have a base spell damage increase on them? such as the 18% on this wand the 18% would be equivalant to the base physical on the previous sword i linked Abyssus Crit Cleave - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/381106

not really. A level n00b wand can have 12% spell damage where as a Nearly Pro wand can have 18% spell damage - the scaling is almost a joke. it's not even a passive worth. You'll notice on your wand a basic tiny spell damage mod is a higher amount than the highest base spell damage any wand can have.
You can get 40% spell damage as a mod on a n00b level wand. Dude, your sword is still 'effective' in every respect. the elemental damage still takes place if you use it, even if you haven't additionally spec'ed for it. The speed is still useful. it's not 'useless' to you, it's just not 'ideal'. Wands can be 'useless'. 10% spell damage even on 200 DPS is just 20 extra damage per shot (if you're shooting at one per second), you honestly wouldn't notice the difference. If you used that sword as one of your two swords and then removed that one, you would notice a difference. |

looking through the witch passives 12% spell damage would be 2 passives worth and the sword i linked might seem good but for a physical melee build it is nearly useless as all my passives increase physical damage and my auras/gems are all based off my physical melee damage as well (i/e hatred,MPD,added fire) I could use a white corsair sword with +20 quality and it would be similar to that gemstone sword dps wise.

The *difference* between a n00b spell damage and a nearly pro spell damage is less than a passive *sighs*.
& depends which passives you're looking at, lol. You say it has the same 'effect' as having a white item, I'm talking about having the same 'effect' as having zero item. Jeez, dudes make it soooo hard... |

The 3 5% near the center of the witch tree so 5% is the average node for raw spell damage (your starter nodes are always better then average)
If im running cyclone using 2 swords with one of them being that white corsair would actually lower my damage while spellcasters would never benefit from having a empty offhand. So using the white corsair is the same effect of using giving myself negative damage seems worse then having zero effect Abyssus Crit Cleave - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/381106

Why are we discussing spell dmg?
When wands are for spell dmg, crit chance, AND cast speed. |

Discussing whether or not a item can be completely useless for a build at the moment.

an item lowers your damage... whatever.
I haven't used the 'starter' spell damage, it's as much a new and selectable passive as the ones 'in the middle'. Once you know which skill you're specialising in the elemental specific % increase passives far outweigh the spell damage passives and often give extra bonuses on the passive, such as a resist or whatever. I honestly thank you for trying to explain how difficult it is to get a decent drop of a one handed sword for a Duelist, but I simply don't believe it's in the same ballpark. Find an example of one that comes close to fitting the ballpark, ok, but is that sword really representative of a good proportion of Duelist sword mods or just one to use for 'exampling'? |
