Was there a reason GGG removed the best map in the game?

@Snorkle_uk
Everything works as intended. You have been replaced as part of the regular playerbase exchange. Judging by the number of supporter packs, I suppose you already have all the necessary tabs and cosmetics that you were interested in. That's why you had to be replaced with someone else who doesn't have it all and has yet to buy it. Since new players have no chance to get used to / get to know cool maps, taking them doesn't bother them. It disturbs unwanted players like you. A clever and very effective sales strategy :)
You have been placed on probation for: ● Make hateful or needlessly negative comments ● Personally attack or cause harm to the reputation of others ● Antagonise others in an obnoxious manner ●

God, wait, GGG works in mysterious ways

And Chris said unto his minions dev team: "Let us drive out the plague of casuals that has infested the lands of Wreaclast and Oriath." And so it was decreed and put forth and a new path of "and we doubled it" was begun in 2020 until all casual players have been driven out of the whole of PoE. And Chris proclaimed "So let it be done!"

Edit: It was either that or "Fun?... We ain't got no fun... We don't want you to have fun... We ain't got to give you no stinking fun!!!"

There's still fun in the game, but sensible time management falls under "Wrongfun". If 99% of players are chaining 1 or maybe 2 maps out of almost 160 different layouts, then either your "product" is defective - i.e. map layouts need work; or 99% of your customers are wrong.

Gorge was the best map in poe ever. The removal of Gorge upset me to the point I have not spent my hard earned cash on this game since March 2019. There's stuff I'd like to purchase, but not now! Seems like a poor decision on someone's part in the company. Especially as this is a reoccurring theme in the forums. There's only one way to protest mistakes , and that's withholding monies. Bring back Gorge, and all will be forgiven! (everyone makes mistakes ggg, suck it up)

the original gorge and strand were fun because they dont force you to backtrack. thats why people loved playing them [Removed by Support]

thats how they work with endgame content, if its fun people play it, and then ggg gets in a sulk because people dont play all the [Removed by Support] content they spent time making so they destroy the fun stuff to make sure we play the game the way they want us to play it, [Removed by Support], even though they basically cheated the stats by forcing people into things they didnt want to play by removing the stuff they did want to do and bribing players with exaggerated item drops.

thats why i dont play the game any more, shaped maps, elder maps, the best layouts etc, the things that actually let you enjoy your game by playing the bits you liked to play were all removed [Removed by Support]. they kind of forget the other option too, you can take away the fun content and then players are forced to play the stuff they dont enjoy [Removed by Support]... or they can just stop playing your [Removed by Support] game.

this is basically the path of nonsense endgame had followed. maps as a format force full clearing, full clearing forces backtracking in a non linear layout, backtracking is not fun. they made a decision to use an endgame format that forces linear layouts, then decided they wanted more layout variety than all linear layouts. most people didnt want to play all these non linear maps because theyre not fun given the format of full clear mapping, so ggg has been constantly trying to find ways to force people to play the [Removed by Support] layouts, removing maps, nerfing density, making maps too low tier to be worth playing, putting expensive div cards in unfun maps, removing mechanics that let us play the maps we want to play, everything they can possibly do. and it all boils down to them making 2 design decisions that conflict with each other, we want a map format that is only fun for a lot of people when the zone is linear + we dont want most maps to be linear. its just a really bad decision, they made 2 incompatible choices and rather than change one so their design makes sense theyve set about spending years trying to make their game less fun to make sure that their bad decision seems to work on paper when they look at the player stats for content engagement.

xp is just xp, its a formula, they can change the numbers to whatever they want. the real problem for them is looking at the stats and seeing that a lot of people clearly dont want to play 90% of their content. their solution is to effectively remove the 10% that people do want to play. its the problem with arpgs, remember when whirlwind was by far the most fun build in early diablo 3? so do you try and change things to make other builds that are fun like that? nope, blizzards answer was to remove the original whirlwind, just destroy the build so no one could play it. now people play lots of builds right? i couldnt tell you, i stopped playing the game because they destroyed the things that were fun that made the game worth playing. i started playing the game again years later when they stopped being stupid and started adding fun things back to the game and tried to balance them by adding even more fun things.

I've always been a fan of your insistence that full-clear necessity and linearity, when linked, equate to desirable game design, due to the non-desirability of backtracking in games of this nature (that is to say, in games which are not designed to be relaxing walking simulators).

Apparently one of the GGG mods is less of a fan. <snort> I don't think I've ever seen more "[Removed by Support]" in a single post before. Still, kudos for them just selectively censoring your post and not stealth-deleting it outright, Blizzard-style.

The removal of Gorge is the single biggest WTF moment by GGG. Universally loved map with noticeable downside (limited density).

Imagine this announcement on the homepage: "The Return of Gorge!"

I think the response would be pretty unanimously happy and thankful. Whatever reason they had for removing it, it should be revisited.
Thanks for all the fish!
I didn't realize that the gorge map had been removed. It was the best map in the game. Although IIRC, they shortened it at one point before it was deleted. So, it was the best map in the game before it was shortened.

This seems strange to me that it was removed. I mean I read some arguments that it was removed because it was too popular. I have difficulty understanding that but can't figure out any other rational???
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

vault in the atlas... and it was the most farmed map for liek 1-3 seasons to the point where they had to change the sextant system

imo spring its still around with basilica similar map layout maybe even slightly better

but glacier "feels bad" compared to good old gorge map... just found recently my old gorge run (3-4years ago) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ywr0b0M4T0&t=6s

It wasn't removed because it was too popular. It was removed because of the same reasons it was popular.

They did shorten it. They did reduce the density. But it was still so much faster, safer and better than everything else. So GGG did what hey often do; they took the easy way out. So instead of adjusting all other maps, the focused their attention on Gorge and decided to remove it.

I miss it. I also miss the old Strand layout. And the old Atoll (Mountain Ledge) layout.

Yeah but density is no longer particularly relevant, we add huge numbers of packs to maps through outside means, this is one more balancing area where GGG have really struggled the map layout vs monster population.

I feel like they said weird layout maps would be great for this league mechanic prior to the actual league but once again it was linear only
I loved that map! It was my go to for leveling, buy them in bulk and speed run em. It was great.
