A realization about Path Of Exile economy, from watching Streamers

It's been a long time since I last played the game...
Watching others play Delirium League is more entertaining than playing it, currently. call it burnout if you will, or just a realization I should be more concerned about my family and my old self these days.

But one thing about this League, its mechanics, and the current state of this game, stands out like a sore thumb - to get rich you need to be rich. and then you get richer.

Streamers in insane gear chaining 20 waves Simulacrum after 20 waves Simulacrum and level 8 Sirus after level 8 Sirus like nothing, to earn even more insane gear and more Exalts in one hour, than I made in 7 years playing the game.
Streamers in Headhunters doing "fully juiced up" 100% Delirium maps like they were nothing, to get more Headhunters.
Mirror tiers getting Mirrors.

it is kind of silly. Entertaining yes, but silly.
Hard to believe this is not intentional by the Devs.

Because the next piece of content will be balanced accordingly.

So on second thought maybe it's more than just burnout or being an old man scared of Coronavirus.
maybe I'm just not the type of player to see fun content or great loot in this game anymore, even if I did play.
maybe this game no longer has a place for players like me.

Shadow: That was fun

stop comparing yourself to someone else.

play to enjoy it. yes, there is a grind to reach the crazy OP point that streamers are at. but you can do endgame without that nonsense.

Kinda sums up life in general, in a way. And so does the game itself: you have the choice to enjoy it at your own pace, or try to run after everything it has to offer and end up exhausted as you realize some things just arent made for you.

I too, somehow, envy those who gain access to endgame-crushing builds, the way they can roll over all content and farm insane amounts of gear and currencies. But I also know this way of playing the game is off-limit for me due to the time I am willing (or able) to put in it. So I only play at my speed, slowly, in SSF, trying to get a bit farther everytime, experimenting new skills or playstyles. I leave the summit to the best climbers, I am content with what I have access to. And at least, I always have a goal to dream about and attend to reach.

It has always been that way.
"Rich" sounds like a funny way to put it when we're literally only killing monsters, some of us faster than others. Nobody is winning a prize for being "rich" and it has no merit outside poe.

I agree with this. I'm older too and I watch the streamers too, but I could care less what they do and what they have. I'm older than probably all of the streamers and have been playing non-stop since closed beta. I've not seen anything that looks like endgame (Atziri, Shaper, Elder.etc). I do pretty much the same crummy builds, rush into mobs that I know I shouldn't, and die a whole lot to the games imperfections and my own stupidity. I've only hit level 90 once and that was in the metamorph league. I don't trade so that everything I do it's all me and mine.

Despite all of this I still have fun because I play at my own pace and do what I want. If you want to play, play. Kill some mobs, find some loot and take what the game has to give you. One thing I've learned as I've grown older is when I'm content with what I have and don't have I'm happier.
Arguing on the Internet: What's the point when you can't punch them in the face when they really piss you off?
This problem only exists in your head. Take a chill pill and play some SSF. You learn to stop caring about that kind of crap when you're in your own economy. ;-)
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
well, crap, warren buffet makes more money in one day earning interest than i make in my entire life! not fair!

it's the same on social media: you only get to see the great moments someone else is having and compare your own average life to it. it doesn't work. personally, i aspire to do the best i can with a given situation. incremental improvements, realistic goals, happier life.
You dont need to be a streamer to do stuff like that but it certainly makes it 20x easier when people will grovel at your feat and give you stacks of exalts.

What if i tell you being OP is boring as fuck?
Made a immortal level 99 guardian this league in 2 weeks, could get 100 easily but i got burned out so bad i dropped this league.
Streamers only keep playing because that's their job.
The fun is actually the road to get there, not the destination.

First, this is inevitable. "Rich" will always (in your eyes) be "more money then X". A person playing a lot will ALWAYS have "more money than X".

Second, OF COURSE a rich person will get richer faster than a poor person gets rich. like in ALL corners of, well, everything/everywhere.

Third, the point of this game shouldn't be "getting rich".

Fourth, what is your obsession with comparing yourself to others? The game will always disappoint you if you keep comparing yourself to people playing 5 times as much as you. I play a lot of tennis, but I certainly do not compare myself to Novak Đoković.

Fifth, as long as there is trading in this game, no matter HOW it is being done, this will ALWAYS be the case.

Needless to say; I'm baffled.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
