Chris Wilson knew anything less than GGG's 'A' game for PoE 4.0 would be disastrous

no matter how good 4.0 is if it can't run solid 60fps i will have to consider quit this game for real.

if D4 just above average not pure garbage that will be enough, I'm so sick of this dogshit performance.
Depends what you call "cartoony" but from the gameplay i saw, it is still day and night compared to D1 and D2 : spells are shiny as crazy, these floating numbers all over the place like an arcade game, the characters are pretty cartoonish when you zoom in, the whole environment when you pay attention has a lot of similarities with D3 but in a very toned down version. Overall it looks pretty decent, but it is not comparable in any manner to D1 and D2. They kept the same engine as D3 after all.

PoE in it's current state is already far less cartoonish, it needs a lot of optimization and some updated graphics/performances for sure, but it doesn't need to blush for that.

Everyone is talking about how "dark" and "gritty" is D4, but i think counting the number of dead bodies or the amount of black paint there is in a map is missing the point : "dark" in my conception means before anything else an unsettling and mysterious atmosphere of the game, it's an overall feeling and not necessarily only what you see. The first cinematic of D2 was less gore than the one from D4 but was hugely more memorable because of that, while this one is full of blood and "dark paint" everywhere, but honestly i wasn't remotely thrilled as any of the D2's cinematics.

IMHO it's all about remembering the "RPG" vibe that this "A-RPG" genre should convey, unfortunately nowadays it tends to be put aside to focus almost exclusively on "Action".

It might be a good game, but at the present moment i'd hardly conceive it as being in line with D1/D2 but more like a gloomiest version of D3, probably with some good stuff nonetheless. I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

EDIT : Also i'm more and more convinced that 3D can't provide the atmospheric feeling that the 2.5D has, it's just way too different.

EDIT2 : Changed a bit the wording :p

i thought the d4 cinematic was absolutely epic, that was ferociously dark and nasty.

cinematics arnt anything to go by tho of course, i mean wow cinematics look cool and then the game looks like a 4 year olds sunday morning shitshow.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

I wish they would add more impactfulness to the char selection screen.

D4:
- The barb just stands up slowly
- The sorc one is actually not bad, but her facial expression seems off
- Druid just stands up and stares at the camera. Almost looks like another barb, not a druid..

D2:
- Barb steps foward and yells, then grinds his axe. Sparks dripping.
- Sorc steps forward and casts magic
- Druid steps forward, wolf sound effects play in the background, hand slides across neck

Seems like the graphic fidelity is there, but the characters have no emotion or life. Like placeholders, lol.

It's like the new lion king movie compared to the original.

I think the game is in pre-pre-pre-alpha stage honestly.

There have been plenty of games that "look good" that don't even stay on the radar a week after launch.

How many Blizzard games can you say that for, where they come and are gone with no one paying them any mind after a week? Maybe Diablo 3 wasn't your cup of tea, and it certainly had a lot of flaws.... but Bliz's overrall track record is pretty damn good - hell, saying pretty damn good is a gross understatement - even it's flops and failures have pretty good legs and stay relevant for a long time. Diablo Immortal is the only real crash and burn game announce ever, and let's face it, no one really thought of Diablo Immortal as a real blizzard game.

I'm not saying by any means that Diablo IV will kill POE, and at this point my once rock-solid confidence in Blizzard doesn't even mean I have absolutet faith that I'll love it..... but come on man, you know full well that it's not gonna be a blip on the radar a week after launch, no way in hell. This is a legitimate threat to POE. And it does look good atm.

how people can get that hyped by the few things they saw is beyond me. how do people still have faith in blizzard? the gameplay on stream looked like an effortless d3 remaster

Because we want to believe they've still got it, i'm interested and what they've shown looks great but the soul of an ARPG is the character development and the demo screenshots aren't encouraging in that regard.

As someone mentioned on one of the many other threads D3's problems weren't engine related, it was design choices itemization and its core as an actual RPG. If they don't get those right it doesn't matter that bear blasting looks amazing.
They said Diablo 4 isn't coming soon, not even "Blizzard Soon". So, that means what? End of next year, 2021, or early 2022? Who knows. D3 announced in 2008 and released in 2012. Still, looking forward to it but POE has plenty of time.
The more I see of D4 the more I am excited. I love PoE, but IF D4 is as good as it looks, with the usual Blizzard polish, I can see PoE's player base dropping significantly if performance is not optimized.
Looks a couple hundred hours good (like Grim Dawn). Doesn't look 7000 hours good.

Because Blizzard's Track Record is still impressive as all hell? I mean, I understand losing faith in Blizzard, my faith in them certainly isn't now what it once was, but after the whole Diablo Immortal Fiasco do you really think they aren't going to come out gunning hard to reclaim the Action RPG throne Diablo 3 semi-lost to POE?

Again, it's far too early to just flat out declair D IV a POE Killer, or to even assume it's going to be mind-melting phenominal.... but this isn't just some random challenger Action RPG either. GGG should diffinately be taking this as a serious threat.
