Overpriced items are not a 'scam', they are a 'rip-off'.

If i sell you a "box full of chocolate" ,but in the end you open it and is just a box with no chocolate in it,this is a scam.

What if it's top-secret, rich, invisible chocolate bunnies?

Blizzard selling us Diablo 3 on the basis that it was a true successor to Diablo 2... that was a scam!

Thoughts? lol

Dont wanna turn this into another D3 bash thread, but mind blown, and wonderful example.

A ripoff is selling quality gem for something like 5 exalts.
A scam is putting up a quality gem, taking it out and substituting a non-quality gem of the same skill and hoping he doesn't notice.
Anyways, this thread should be stickied because it cuts all of the corners about scams and rip-offs. And sometimes small statements are just more fuel for theory-wankers. A nice wall of text sometimes leaves everyone on a good final note.

That too.

Wouldn't bother. People don't read stickies and anyone likely to confuse scam and ripoff is too busy in game trying not to be 'scammed' by the prices.

This was me venting. Constructively, hopefully accurately venting, but still venting.

Nonsense. Only two out of the rest aren't still having responses coming in. Which is reasonable since one of the two is just about new moderators.

Most of them are at 40k views. Charan, now is the time to let go and stop being modest to make a decision.

Ugh, trading. The worst part of any online game.

People shouldn't be in an ARPG debating the use of the word rip-off versus the word scam (both involve the "victim" not being quite as vigilant as he should be, so I'm sympathetic to neither), or arguing the value of My Stupid Trinker versus Your Stupid Trinket, or discussing "currency exchange rates", or complaining that such and such is going to make the market crash.

ARPGs are supposed to be able hitting monsters and seeing them explode into puddles of gore.

This is what happens when trading is accommodated. You end up with all these things in the game and on the forums that don't involve puddles of gore.

A fair stance, but not really relevant to the topic at hand. :)
