As much as it pains me to refer to Wikipedia, this quote makes complete sense in this context. "A ripoff (or rip-off) is a bad financial transaction. Usually it refers to an incident in which a person is overcharged for something, or receives goods or services not of the standard expected for the price. A ripoff is usually distinguished from a scam in that a scam involves wrongdoing such as fraud; a ripoff may be considered excessive, but not illegal." (bold mine). If a store overcharges for a product, it is a rip-off, but it is not a scam. If someone gains your confidence and then tries to actually steal from you or gain money/goods from you for any purpose other than agreed upon, it is a scam. It is fraud. It is very, very hard to scam in Path of Exile. It is extremely easy to be ripped off. If you are ripped-off in Path of Exile, or if you rip someone off, you are not engaging in anything illegal in either the devs' or the mods' eyes. We cannot and will not police it. The moment you get the two confused, you are invoking certain legal precedents and standards erroneously. Scamming is much closer to illegal activity than ripping someone off. If someone is charging too much for an item online, for example, you cannot leave feedback and say 'this person scammed me!'...that is poor feedback indeed. You can, however, complain about the price and say you found the same item cheaper elsewhere. Because we do not and never shall permit name-and-shame threads, the repercussions for ripping people off in this game are likely less of an impact here than they can be in real life or sites that provide room for feedback on transactions. I acknowledge that's a problem. We also don't endorse third party sites, but I see nothing wrong with an independent site where traders of the community can monitor themselves, where bad apples can be highlighted with the usual system of feedback en masse, etc. We can't allow that here but what you do outside of this forum is not our business. I will iterate: what many call 'scamming' in-game and on here simply is not. Think of it instead as ripping-off, because that's what it is. It is neither illegal nor unprecedented in online gaming economies. Ripping off has never been morally justified but in a barter economy, especially in a barter economy, it's going to happen. Shifting the terminology from 'scam' (typically illegal and fraudulent) to 'rip-off' (excessively high prices) might help in accepting the reality of the situation. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Fine fine....whatever. I can see you want me to read it, which I did. Helpful info, but its something most avid traders and gamers should already know. Maybe I can just go ahead and restart my old trader guild and see if that works out for the better. The only problem is I dont have a website I can use or a TS/Mumble/Vent server either.
