Path of Exile or that other game.
Not much of a predicament. I think you'd made up your mind either before posting or not long after. Which is admirable -- decisive people get things done. :)
In fact, I never saw any predicament with this game any way you look at it. If you can't decide between d3 and this, 'both' is a perfectly viable option. If it's a matter of time, you will choose very quickly which one you want to play because they feel *so different.* I really do question the validity of these 'D3 vs PoE' threads when they're framed in terms of a predicament or difficult choice. It's not a difficult choice at all. Now if both were retailing for the same price, then maybe you'd have a heftier choice on your hands. Your concern regarding the eventual wipe of beta characters upon PoE's 'release' is not related to Diablo 3 at all. It is a much more valid concern, though. Someone asked in chat this weekend why they should bother playing now if all that hard work is going to be wiped sooner or later. The GGG Dev Brian Weissman gave precisely the same answer as other people at the time: because it's fun to play. I guess this is much less of a concern with the D3 beta, since you only reach level 13 and have *mournfully* crap gear throughout. It's the tip of a very big, very Blizzard iceberg. Maybe PoE gave too much, too quickly, if people are getting really attached to their beta creations. ;) If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

D3 is going to suck and it's not even a Diablo game other than name, stick with PoE if u still care about character builds, dark/realistic graphics, spooky atmosphere (light radius on dungeons/at night) & a more mature experience over all, u wont find those things in D3 exactly the opposite.

I refuse to purchase anything made by blizzard. D2 was blizzard north. This new crew is nothing but a bunch of brokedick pukes. Why would I support a bloated cow? Why would one not want to play PoE is the question.
Posting something like this only shows that you might want to ask yourself.. Can I make up my own mind? Do I want to be a follower or a trailblazer? Do I want to support a small team with heart or a corporate cow that will milk me for all I am worth? Do I need to even mention the cash based auction house???? Do you want some puke to just be able to buy the gear you have worked for? Path of Exiles community is a huge part of the decision for me. Let alone just how bad ass this game is. I don't like weak pukes. That is what D3 is good for... keeping those people away from the rest of us . 98% of you breathe through your mouth. Now take your bottom lip and pull it up over your head. Keep going until you disappear up your ass.

I don't see any prolem choosing between the two. I will be playing PoE the whole way through, and I will also be playing D3 once it comes out, assuming I have enough money to get it.

" Oh it's a predicament, it might seem i made up my mind but i haven't 100% mainly said that because i been waiting for d3 for so long then i find out about this gem on weekend personally i think everyone has different taste in games you might hate blizzard i don't really played all there diablo series like most of us wasted 5 years on WoW also so if anyone knows i know what they have done and how they will ruin d3 but that's another very long story lol.. until they dumb it down and hand out free gears i'm interested and i don't see the point in leveling character which will be rolled back to legacy yeh it's fun but not that fun when i could play d3 and i should also mention i haven't been able to play d3 beta yet so i don't even know how bad it is, as for money doesn't really come into decision making, i'll stop ranting now thanxs for your thoughts. |

I have all kinds of objections to decisions Blizz has made in the design of D3. I have friends that refuse to buy it because of one or another principle: the RMAH, the always-online thing, or the whole "dumbing down" issue.
But, I am in the beta, and I have to say... it is very very playable and just simply fun. Unfortunately that trumps all my principles, when it comes to games ;) I play them for entertainment, and if they provide entertainment I will put up with corporate crap that I don't like. D3, though, is also a very DIFFERENT game from PoE. Where Blizz went for simplifying and streamlining in pretty much every game system, PoE revels in glorious excess. In terms of furniture design, it's like D3 is Danish Modern and PoE is Baroque. I kinda love it for the sheer complexity and size of its itemization and character development systems. Would take a long time to feel like you've scratched the surface of all the character builds, especially since you're so drop-dependent that pure luck plays a big role in what kind of build you wind up with. Playing for most of last weekend left me feeling like I'd just had a sip of the well. So put me in the group of people that feels they don't have to choose, for the moment at least. I may just be playing one or the other a year from now (or possibly Torchlight 2 or Grim Dawn ;) ), but right now I couldn't tell you which one it will be. My choice actually has little or nothing to do with PoE ...
At one point I couldn't wait for D3 - but it has become increasingly obvious through observation that some of the design choices just are not very interesting. I also hear whispers that they haven't been really paying close attention to the lore. ref "The Diablo Podcast" I do really like the D3 art design, but one of favorite D2 "knock-offs" is Dins Curse and that is ugly as crap. Does this mean I will never get D3? NO, but I will holding off and seeing how its reviewed. I was only slightly interesting in PoE until I played the stress test. Has my mind changed about D3 since playing PoE ... not really ... just made by feeling stronger about holding out and not playing D3 for awhile. Playing PoE stress test has me much more interested in playing PoE in whatever manner and possibly even *gasp* paying a small price to get in closed beta. The question does come to my mind if I had access to a meaningful chunk of D3 free just like PoE, would I feel differently about D3? I would have then been able to evaluate the simplifications, and maybe I would have liked them just like I ended up liking Skyrim after playing for a few hours. We will never know because nobody outside Blizzard has had that kind of access. I think $60 is a pretty high price to play something that I might not like at all.
