The whole TencentGGG thing happened when i was on a poe break so i dont really know whats going on.
From everything i read so far it seems that Tencent will probably buy the last 20% of GGG theyre missing. Well if that is true, this game is basicly done.
At least i for myself will have a hard time justifying any more purchases.
In the past i never really thought about it. It just was the right thing to do. Even back then when i basicly had no money i was completly happy to throw them 30-50 bucks here and there. Even the ridiculous MTX prices (They are, no denying that. Always have been) didnt really bother me since it was all for good.
As far as i know me i will still purchase at least the league supporter packs for now. Its stupid but oh well. As we say in germany: "Hope dies last"
Its pretty save that everything will go downhill though. It always happens. Dwarf Fortress might be the only real exception. They / he never sold out in the first place though..
I do strongly believe that Chris loves this game and only has good intentions. Well as good as they can be for a human that has to make a living somehow.
But what Chris wants is not important anymore. Ill give this whole thing about 2 more years before it will all go to shit.
So, where did it all go wrong?
I assume Chris didnt sell his baby just because he wanted more money. I guess he had no other choice. Which leads me to, what i think is, the cause of this: Their release schedule. I dont know at which point they made the descision to go from small additions like ambush or even breach, abyss to expansion style type of leagues like betrayal or now synthesis. It was already almost too much with those smaller leagues to keep that going on and on and on.
I always proposed a different schedule with like 2 releases and 2 legacy like leagues or something per year.
But i dont know any numbers. Maybe they didnt even make enough money back then and thought they just do more and maybe grow a lot bigger and be healthy.. Idk. I dont think anybody here knows the real reason.
What i can say, and im pretty sure, is that there never has been a time, and im following this game since beta on and off, where so many people are frustrated and complaining..
It was a good run GGG... a damn good one..
Id say they should just let poe rot away, go back to a small group of good people and start all over with a new game, but i guess their contracts will include the duty to develope this game for the next x amount of years..
So we will have to wait for a new Chris Wilson then i guess. I just hope it doesnt take 10 years..

No they won't. You misunderstand what that 20% of the remaining stock (in the hands of the three founders) is for.
It's to keep them invested. To keep them from taking the money from the sale of GGG (and its IP) and going off to start a new, rival company.
That remaining outstanding stock is a leash, keeping those three guys connected to, and interested in the company. It's very crafty business procedure. If-and-when those three choose to retire, THEN Tencent will probably buy them out. But not before.
I'm personally not a fan of Tencent. They're the ones who make "Social Credit Score" work in China. Social Credit Score is deeply creepy.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

Meanwhile GGG releases on PS4 and Korea... yeah the game will "rot" away and be gone in 2 Years for sure. Man you guys and your doomsday prophecys.. just stop playing the game if you dont enjoy it anymore and stop looking for excuses xD
I love all the people saying that Tencent will have no effect on the international version...
Just like Activision has had no effect on Blizzard, and yet WoW is now filled with MTX bs, Diablo Immortal is now a thing lol.
Just like EA will have no effect on Bungie...lul Destiny.
Bottom line is, Tencent will effect GGG. Tencent invested a ton of money and they will want return on that money, plain and simple. Once the Chinese market no longer satisfies them, they will turn to the international version.
Blizzard started the ludicrous trend of charging extortionate amounts of money for changing trivial data, while I think Activision certainly played their part in the general downwards trend blizzard is riding I think a majority of it is blizzard themselves that continue to milk previously high quality IP's until they are a desiccated corpse.
They milk the IP's because they are owned by Activision and have to make the shareholders happy.
Blizzard is long since dead. Activison is just wearing its skin like Buffalo Bill because Blizzards name garnered good will among gamers. That will has run dry.

Well i never said that it WILL definitely rot away. I said they basicly should leave the game and start something new. Idc if the future poe i dont like anymore is successfull in korea or china. It will be a shit game, IF it will still be there. The 2 years is the timespan i wont be able to let this game go and will keep playing it. As i said, hope dies last.

I think the leash is in the contracts.
And my sentence was easy to misunderstand. The "if that is true" part was not only for buying the last 20% or not. It was for everything since i dont know anything. Did they really buy 80%? When did that happen btw? Im too lazy to look it up myself..
Well, I logged on to LoL this week, and got a notification that there were fixes intended to improve performance on slower and older computers. Haven't played enough to truly assess that, but so far so good, it runs at least as well as it ever has.
I think the new meta is everyone bitching about the new league.
Thing are born, things thrive, and then they die. None can avoid that, POE and GGG are not an exception. Just be thankfull for all the good times you had with POE, and let it go.
