No they won't. You misunderstand what that 20% of the remaining stock (in the hands of the three founders) is for.

That remaining outstanding stock is a leash, keeping those three guys connected to, and interested in the company. It's very crafty business procedure. If-and-when those three choose to retire, THEN Tencent will probably buy them out. But not before.

I'm personally not a fan of Tencent. They're the ones who make "Social Credit Score" work in China. Social Credit Score is deeply creepy.

Tencent Mobility - an online communication, advertising, and gaming service provider - was granted consent to acquire up to 100 per cent of the shares in Grinding Gear Games, 80 per cent up front and the remaining 20 per cent over approximately six years, a summary of the decision released today said.

Also, it's going to happen in way less than six years, I would say 6-12 months after 4.0 gets released. Someone from GGG said aprox. 1-2 years on Reddit but it was ninja nerfed and I can't find the post anymore.

So thats probably when we will see Chris say goodbye and whoever else?

Also, what happened to capitalist ethos of GGG's American customer segment here, or was it never there? Now that China is thriving by adopting market economy features, it's suddenly 'bad'. Seriously? How about all the s*hit western powers have been doing for decades. Chinese having shady intelligence practices and using rule of law imaginatively is nothing specially eastern for anyone who's been watching world events at all. I mean, should we stop using American products (of which, by the way, a major part is produced in India and China under American tag and under American ownership), because a western power is the biggest military subzidier in the world and has been blatantly breaking international law for years with little to no consequiences? Oh, or Bayer-owned -yes, it is German- Monsanto and all the f*cked up things such companies have been achieving for years?

You can play games like Souls series, which includes all the best of all worlds - a common sense company, a good pricing structure of literal 1 payment that is good in perpetuity, and the common sense balance changes.

That's why you have 7-12 K (mostly PvP) players in Dark Souls 3 even today. Which is unbelievable, but true, and it's all because the company is making common sense decisions that players like.

I will take a look at them - GoG have them? A great many people also seem to be in love with Larian's games, so I will give them an honest try as well. I hunt for small studios, and that's what drew me to GGG before it... well... became another cash-cow for some Asian Robber Barons. Was a sad day, and I hate that it's turning out exactly as I feared it would.

I really hoped I would be wrong, and this company would somehow buck the trend. I really don't enjoy it when such things happen.

When some games and studios falter, you cheer. I take no pleasure in this one's downward spiral.

Hmm... well... "permission to acquire" and actual acquisition aren't the same thing. If they have permission to complete the acquisition, then yes, things may actually go that way. But I think my point still stands. Leaving the three founders with an existing stake in the company is a good business move for Tencent.

Tencent may indeed have the option to pull that lead in, but I suspect they won't exercise it as long as things appear to be going in the direction they way.
