Divine Orb

Divine does not really play a role in crafting from my understanding, if you spend thousands of alts and hundreds regals to get the best first 3 stats on an item, why would you risk it by divining it and losing that work? Unless your plan was only to get into the right mod tier and plan to divine it later. But to me, based on how rare divines are, it seems like you would be better off burning more alts/regals to max out those first 3 stats. At which point, divine is no longer worth it to try to alter the 4th or 5th stats that you add with exalt.

This leaves divines in a niche role of either trying to role better stats on a valuable unique such as shavronnes (not worth the cost of the divine on lower tier uniques), or on a dropped rare that happened to have excellent mod tiers to begin with

You don't seem to understand how Divine's work...
For a start, you can only use one regal, if that adds crap, scour and start again, eventually you'll get your base 3 stats.
Then you use Exalted, scouring if you get crap (likely)
Once you get the 6 affixes you want, a Divine will move all of them around within their affix bracket.
Often this range is a tiny amount: "Blue" Base Max Mana for example: 65–68. Sometimes quite a lot: "Carapaced" Base Armour 323-400.
With 5-6 affixes, you'll be worrying about those high-range affixes.
But whatever, the cost to get this item in exalteds and Divines far, far, far exceeds the cost to simply BUY one, which is the problem, you see.

People actually scour after using two exalted on an item? I suppose then that blowing thru lots of divines isn't an issue to them then, which I wasn't factoring in when I said that.
I understand how divines work. What i was saying is that the first two affixes (or three, if you plan to scour/regal a lot), are the ones you optimize the most, which means you keep rolling until you not only get the max tiers for the affixes you want, but the max value within that tier as well. What I was saying is why risk divining an item to adjust the values on the exalted (4th-6th) affixes, with the potential of screwing down the values on the first three ( and presumably more important) affixes that you spent a lot of effort obtaining before even exalting.
Of course, if you have enough divines that you can keep rerolling until all 6 affixes are maxed, then the point is moot. That just seems like an insane sent of divines to me tho
