Any ETA on fixing these ridiculous AMD FPS drops? (e: Nvidia cards affected as well!)
i have a problem with the game...not every time.. but 4,5 "Exceptions" i take everyday...
the "Exception" is a error who tell me "Error-Map loading...etc" this hapends when i try to TP or WP to home or new maps..is random.. but the game stop when i do that.. what i need to make... when i log in again.. the game works perfect...and after some time "Error-Map=15311514"(exemple) (sorry for my bad english...i am from Romania) What i need to do ? anybody take that error ? (i have Nvidia card) |

Here is one for you all to try, get fraps installed and start recording in game and watch how the frame rate drops, you get it anyway with fraps when recording on to the one HDD but doing so with PoE should highlight where the FPS is getting lost.
And most of it is getting lost on the loading of just about everything, you go in and any new pack of monsters will have you at single digit fps until it is loaded, once it is you'll be fine until you move on and discover the next pack which starts it all again. i would assume that it is particularly bad for people that have not defraged their HDD or cleaned it or even if it is fairly full. It's not HDD fault, it's implementation of loading resources fault. It clearly looks like loading additional resources blocks the main game loop (rendering, sockets, logic), that shouldn't happen if you move loading to another thread (ofc if the engine is thread safe).
They can also eliminate the spikes by preloading assets needed for the level. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Last edited by ThePassenger#0285 on Jul 5, 2013, 2:31:42 PM

This will never be fixed, by now it's fairly obvious it's something they either do not understand or are just not able to remedy due to limitations or something. If you have this problem you either quit, buy a new videocard (and pray that this one is suited for PoE) or suck it up. I've quit personally, got way too tired of it. It's a shame though because I like the game.

" It's the first option. I've emailed Chris to get a first hand update and he told me they can't even reproduce the fps spikes in their office (which i don't understand, since a lot of hardware/software configurations are affected). Furthermore he mentioned that it could be CPU related rather than GPU and that i shouldn't expect a fix anytime soon. Sorry for the bad news everyone. This does happen with intel HDxxxx as well. The perfect solution is to quit.

I've sent a mail to AMD in the meantime, explaining the problems and that GGG doesn't know what causes the problems. The AMD guy told me the case will be forwarded to the catalyst team. Hope they find out what's the problem (tbh i'm not sure they even investoigate it, but it's worth the try).
