Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

2019 content update:

8th character comes game. Unlockable. Is Panda King. Has monkey bash ability, very OP kills everything very fast. Every streamer play it. Completely free after 1000 hours of grind. Or pay 2000 super mega diamond coins to play now. Your independent decision from independent company.

Passive skill tree is too confusing and not easy for new players. Removed. Must attract new players to get all the money. We pick 2 skills and make them OP, rest of the skills rendered useless. New player picks two skills and button mashes, easy to play. Current player base goes crazy and rants and complains and quits the game, we no care, we have 20mil. new players, go .... yourselves nerds. Money.

Ok, I'm messing around joking but unfortunately I have a bad feeling that something similar will happen in a year or so..

I am quite surprised by the amount of business experts and bunch of whiners around here.

They should go and create their own company because they seem to understand the right moves to run, or not, a successful business model.

This was so spot on , even the language
Trying to stay optimistic with this news, but it's kinda bittersweet. I supported early on for the ethical mtx model, the quality of the game design, and the strong community interaction in the hopes that PoE would become big and perhaps serve as a model for others. This isn't quite what I had in mind, but it seems to be the inevitable outcome. Very interested in seeing how PoE evolves from this arrangement. Congratulations, GGG!

Though I expect mtx will still be big business regardless of ownership, especially after some time goes by, I suspect I'm going to miss all the "Shut up and take my money!" threads. Perhaps they'll turn into "Shut up and pass along my money!" threads? We can hope.
Any long time LoL players that can give an honest recollection of the game before Tencent and after?

wew look at all this knee jerking. They said nothing will change, they are still their own company.

But they are not. It's Tencents company now.
„I don't give a fuck if it was his tenth anniversary with his goddamn neckbeard...“
„If they think I'm going to let them sweep this pizza guy thing under the rug...“
No mod action. Business as usual.

Do you know what it means to 'vote with your wallet'?

A lot of people supported GGG because they weren't owned by a publisher/investor. Do you eat regularly at a family-owned restaurant? Support local business? Buy products manufactured domestically?

Do you understand what these concepts are? Then you should understand why supporters are upset. Your strawman of 'business experts who know better' is so far off the mark it makes you look like an idiot.

More money on tournaments, more possibilities to have the chinese crowd in, only a win-win situation for Riot Games.
They still own their business, since you can make a deal that, while the chinese have more than 50% (the condition to actually, put your org in China), you still have the rights and decisions.
Still gonna support GGG with supporter packs and random MTX purchases. As long as they keep delivering a game that is fun to play and Beastiary league never enters the game again.

I actually fully understand this point and agree in a lot of ways. However, that is a very different argument than most are making here- that the game is ruined or that we will all be on the chinese realm before long...

I guess my question is, as a supporter of GGG why did you do it? Did you do it because you like what they did and wanted them to continue it and make living doing so? If so the Tencent just bought the biggest supporter pack of all time.
