Chop Finale .... ROLL DAY~
mirror: you could also use the actual "duplicated" system that prevents cloned items to be cloned again to the org. item too.
So it could only be duplicated 1 time and after that the game would refuse to clone it again. This would also in the long run prevent 999x the same item used by everyone and his mother (you could also implement endgame uniques with the mirror droprate that beat all other rare stuff 99.99999% of the time). And the "traders" will not get to a point where they hold all the godly org. items and ppl have to pay insane prices to get one of those (and this will happen - there are always like 5-10 ppl who have everything in every game - those are not the ppl playing but using the games as economic simulation). And exactly there may be the highest demand of hacks and dupes to be able to get unlimited mirrors to maximize profit - be it ingame or $$. Limiting the usability of the mirror may at least hinder those things. Still godly items will find their way to the same ppl but they can´t maximize the profit 100 times out of each of them. cya Deathtiny

" I don't like the idea. From a mathematical point of view 10 Chaos 2 is even/better/worse than 1 Chaos 3. If 10 Chaos 2 > 1 Chaos 3 -> you won't use Chaos 3 If 10 Chaos 2 == 1 Chaos 3 -> no need to use it other then maybe an easier way to trade lot's of chaos orbs If 10 Chaos 2 < 1 Choas 3 -> you are discouraging normal players form using their orbs themself -> bad idea. If you want orbs like Chaos2/3.... then let them drop with *0.1 .. *0.01 droprate |

" insanely rare godly items = insanely huge cost. that shouldnt be hard to understand. thats fundamentals of the entire genre. d2 dupes made it ezmode, i guess people are used to that now, but it is going to change moving forward. what we currently have on closed beta is redic price wise. 5L chest 55+ should be going for over exalted, but instead you struggle to find someone with enough game sense to know thats fair price. items are far far undervalued atm. d3 is going to be an eye opener for a great many also, you will see items in the thousands of $usd that are so rare they cant even be purchased with in game currency early in the games life. thats how they bridged gaps. if you find mirror in first 1-3 months of poe release you're already rich, you just have to hold it until economy matures enough to pay or finds godly. it 100% bypasses all of the work to get to that same point. thats why im against it, not because of dupers duping a orb that dupes ... that isnt my concern. the guys that no life it and are very skilled at trading deserve to have the best items. reguardless of what people believe thats 1 of the main draws of this genre. its 1 of the 2 reasons i play. second being pvp / min maxing. if a guy plays 10 hours a day and you play 1, he deserves to have an advantage in game, and he deserves the same amount of value out of items as you would get. if it takes on average 50 hours to get an exalted, you have to play 10x more "days" than he will. its all the same in the end price wise. its the "time" invested that throws people off. your 10 days @ 1 hour is not worth more than his 1 day of 10 hours.a lot people dont understand that. if you expect to attain godly poe items in the time you did in 8 year old inflated d2 you are sorely mistaken im afraid. it would better compare to start/mid ladder high end d2 uniques, which few also remember. the whole dupe/hacks/bots is a whole different discussion. that will rely on ggg policing and upkeep which im sure will be good. " so you would rather roll mass orbs for high odds of rolling decent rather than paying for decent 100% with still chance of high rolls? i dont understand what you're saying. the exact numbers are obv off, i thought that was a given. the idea remains the same. some people would roll 100x chaos 1 over 5x chaos 3's. thats the whole point of the system. to be able to pay for somewhat reasonable outcomes and still have chance for godly. it appeals to both styles. mass cheap , and high quality pay for static results. maybe we are misunderstanding each other. " The point i was trying to make is: 10 hours trading > 10 hours playing - and thats why those items will land in the "right" hands over time. If i play the game 9 hours a day and trade 1 hour a day it will get me nowhere near someone who does trade 10 hours a day. And i already said often enough that the itemvalues in the game are nowhere near what they should be. But only because currency is overrated in it´s usefullness. Ppl see them like a guaranteed thing to get their items and get disappointed because that´s not how it is ment to be. If ppl would look at those like "an chaos orb is a guaranteed rare drop of your desired baseitem of choice" - and not more and not less - it would be better. I had offers for both of my 6linked armours that were nowhere near what i would take as an valid offer. Even a mirror was in the mix - still with limited options what to get duplicated with that mirror i stayed at the armours. And yes i am at the same side with you that there is a big "gap" between an exalted and a mirror that will lead to problems while trading godly items. A mirror is a guaranteed success currency - an exalted does make your item better but may be underwhelming - how would you value those vs each other... Grz to alpha invite btw ! cya Deathtiny

" believe it or not, i made mine playing 9 and trading 1. i think poe has higher payoff to players than some similar games. i tried to be the fairest trader i could be, and tried my best to keep that reputation. unless you are just ripping peoples arms off left and right and quick about doing it, you can actually farm relatively fast in poe. biggest thing is knowing what to keep and what to trash. then what things should be worth based on rarity and demand. mirror + for 6l id have done out of principle. worst case you pay him the "+" back and dupe it. best case you dupe godly weapon in future. my rebuttal is poe is more fast paced than other arpgs that ive played. as such, its easier to build wealth legit farming instead of ripping off noobs all day. valid concern on big items tho, those would be big payoffs if gotten cheap, but shouldnt happen often at all ( read thread about how hard they are to roll lol). mirror: ive had many long discussions over that orb ... could do a whole thread just on its projected worth and ever changing possibilities lol. nothing in the game is remotely close, and by remotely id say 1:50+ exalted come release would still be unfair to the mirror guy. Other than the issue that players currently overvalue currency items, in my opinion the other main issue is that currency items usually make up a tiny (<5%) portion of a player's wealth. The rest of the wealth comes from dropped items. This makes it difficult to use currency items as currency in trades involving items with relatively high worth (e.g., 40% of your total wealth), because if the buyer is roughly the same level as the seller, the buyer will not have enough currency items to pay for it. The buyer's only choice is to opt for item to item trade, which rarely works in practice. The seller can try to sell to a higher-level player who has enough currency items to buy it, but usually they already have better item and thus have no need to buy it.
To fix/remedy this issue without affecting other aspects of the game, the drop rates of all items of value (rares, quality gems, 6-links, etc.) need to decrease (by half for example), while the drop rates of all currency items need to increase significantly (10 times for example) as to account for the former drop rate decrease. The end result is that if you use all of your currency items, what you get from the crafted items plus the dropped items should remain roughly the same as it was before the change. This way currency items will account for a larger portion of a player's wealth and make many impossible trades possible. Regarding mirrors, in my opinion they should be as rare as the rarest item (e.g., a 6-link weapon with perfect mods). Any less than that would make it too easy to get godly items. If this means one in a billion chance to drop, so be it, although at that kind of rate we may want to remove it from the game altogether :P Edit: the relative rarity of currency items compared to good items (rares, etc.) is probably the major reason people overvalue the currency items (people use rarity to estimate value, while the actual value lies in what you can actually do with them), so two birds hit with one stone with the solution I suggested above Last edited by Benawii#2385 on Mar 1, 2012, 1:31:05 AM
