Haven't you learned to not buy more than ~5? :V
You have waaay too much money to spend, dear.

Also, while they are not the best thing in the world given they perpetuate the gambling thingy, I think they aren't the worst.

I know we've at least skimmed against this topic before, but why would mystery boxes/lucky dips/gacha get your goat when you're okay with casinos? I have a few guesses but I'd like your take.

Video game RNG boxes are gambling in my eyes and I view them not being legally considered such a BS technicality. So in my eyes the entire conversation revolves around gambling.

I once spent three months in a mental hospital and I met a man whose life had been ruined by gambling. Wife and kids gone. Life’s savings decimated. He felt many things. Shame. Self-loathing. You know what he felt most? Fear. The absolute certainty of Next Time. The loss of control, the money wasted, the disappointment those who hadn’t abandoned him would feel.

So, what’ll we do? Outlaw gambling? Well, there are people out there who are allergic to water. It obviously isn’t feasible to render illegal everything which even a single individual has a problem with. I do believe that gambling can be a fun thing people do in moderation, only using disposable income they can afford to lose, and I see no reason to needlessly deprive them of that.

Thus I see a need to find a compromise. Where I live, there are stringent laws restricting the advertising of cigarettes. You can go out and buy a pack if you like - no questions asked - but it’s seen as not being in the public interest to have ads glorifying smoking.

If someone wants to create a casino, follow the laws relevant to gambling, and legally make some money then more power to them. Casinos, gambling websites, the local bookies... if they’re properly regulated I don’t have a problem with a single one of them.

But I do think gambling has no place in games. They’re marketed towards children, their developers aren’t made as accountable as companies properly recognised as providing gambling services, and it means those trying to fight an addiction have to check whether the game they want to play is “safe” before they buy it. And it’s not like lootboxes have a reputation for improving games...

I’ve bet money on horse racing. I’ve tried my luck at fruit machines (turns out I have none). I don’t see a problem with gambling. Just let those who are interested in gambling seek it out, and stop cramming it where it doesn’t belong to make a quick buck.

I do not like what is happening to the games industry.

I'm not 'Sarno' on Discord. I don't know who that is.
That is about what I anticipated.

Yours is an extreme example, one perhaps born of a culture where gambling remains somewhat fringe. At the other end of the spectrum you have the gacha/capsule toy culture of Japan. Or as I mentioned, lucky dips and blind boxes here in the West. I think most children learn to moderate their spending. So while I agree that gambling in all but name is bad for games, its nothing new to kids.

Regarding PoE, its officially ages 16+...if you don't know your financial limits by then, you've got bigger problems than loot boxes in PoE, although they might trigger that problem.
Predecessor! Paragon is BACK.
Finished Dragons Dogma 2 at 327 hours, 9 playthroughs. Loved every minute.
Holy shit, Assassins Creed ARPG trilogy isnt shit. 3D titan quest with better writing?
Dungeon Encounters is brilliant. Square Enix should stop banking on bloatjunk like ffxvi and ff7r.
I like the system from DotA 2. You cannot get dupes until you have every single item from the box. Also, you can gift shit you don't need to friends. I think MTX shouldn't be tradable but giftable.
Maybe, just maybe you could not buy mystery boxes and wait for GGG to release mtx in shop :|

...
Ok fine i also hate getting dupes. I would be really happy if every time system rolls dupe i would receive instead HO decoration.

You are not alone. Been saying so the entire time. Wanna know what happens when you speak up?

People ban you in their streams because they think you are just hating (this literally happened to me).

They just don't care. It's sad, but what can I do?

I have noticed lately as well that video game companies are going full Hitler mode with banning and censorship lately - Warframe being a perfect example.

Regarding lootboxes themselves:

1) The emotional side is unaware for almost everyone as people don't see the players who are happy with the results. I personally can't complain at all - I buy those mystery boxes until I get a duplicate and then stop.

2) People take their prizes often for granted and can't appreciate what they've got. Someone who has got fire and ice pets will just think that it's cool and no other emotions involved, but doesn't understand that he just got 800 points worth of pets for 120 points and didn't have to wait for 3 months for it. Now when that same player gets a duplicate, he will go full I_NO mode although he's still heavily in plus.
So far I've got everything I've wanted from fire and ice and barely spent anything. I believe I've got 1000 points worth of stuff for 200 points.

3) Whining about it changes nothing, this is be how video game monetization will be from now on and forever but the less predatory it is, the better. Every popular game has lootboxes, some are just presented in a more innocent way.

4) Children have always been pulled into gambling as well, you just haven't noticed it yourself. Kinder surprises, 1$ toy machines, chips / cereal with prizes in them, new bottle of coke under cork etc. In practice they're essentially the same so the children argument can't be brought up here.
