How does the RNG work on Path of Exile?

To answer your question in the most simple way: every item in this game got different tiers of roll. And different tiers have different weighted chances. For example: you have a set of 'wretched card' that gives you a unique belt. And there are 30 unique belts in the game now. That doesnt mean that if you turn in 30 sets of card you will get a Head Hunter. You will see that "Wurm's Molt" would be your common return. For Head Hunter, you probably need to turn in like 2000 sets or more than that. Any readings in possibility theory will help you understand this.

But let me tell you this real quick: Nobody besides the devs that actually work on the rng knows how its althgorithm works. And they can change this althgorithm league after league to balance out the game to their own vision. So you would be wasting your time if you think with 'knowledge' you can game on the system's roll.

Each crafter in this game is all gambling on luck. Ofc if you take time to learn about affix roll, suffix roll, master craft, etc in this game, you can slightly reduce some risk of your roll. But in the end, its all luck, and a lot of currencies to go with it.
Hey guys, I am pretty sure that RNG in Path of Exile works exactly the same as any other. I would probably compare it to the one, which is being used in slots and thanks to which it is impossible to win in long-term:https://casino.guru/how-slot-machines-work-math (it is). So that´s the reason why in this game (and any other) the drops are totally random, unless they are backed by some other algorithms what I strongly doubt.
I think this is a valid question and I also think like mentioned in the OP's video that the RNG is man made so it tends to lean to one side or the other. In other words its pseudo rng.

Imagine that if RNG was like roulete then 99.999% of people would not win and the game would become really hard and unsatisfactory and this my friends is an entertainment business and if most people were not to have fun then the business would fail. Simple stuff. So imo there is no such thing as rng in games.

Now, what I am really interested is about some technical questions about mapping and mobs and if someone from GGG can answer that would be great.

For example how the the game rolls the dice. Is the dice rolled when the monsters are killed or when the map opens? Because if it is the latter we better kill every single monster in the map since that monster might have an item "sitting on it", or is the dice rolled when the monsters are killed which would mean that its ok to skip some mobs that have escaped us.

At this point all I know about mapping is that more IIQ is better than IIR since you proc the "RNG" more and hence you have more chances to to drop the desired item.

Anyways if someone can explain this to me, that would be great.
There is one problem with RNG: (pseudo)random number generator is not good enough for PoE. There is too much loot generated in very, very short time, so generator generates very similar numbers for all loot. It is a common situation, that you get 2-4 maps in a minute or don't get any for a long time. The same with uniques, currencies, etc. That's way IIQ looks better than IIR.
<<ahem>>

Allow me to explain this as succinctly as possible.

<<clears throat>>

RNG in PoE works like this: The more time you spend playing, the more chance you have that you will find something "good".

Or not.

<<bows>>

Thank you.

No no no. People think PoE is random. It's not. There are gods in PoE and you must please them. I have a shrine to Kuduku in my garden and I make 20 exa per hour in drops. I currently have a shrine to Kadaka under construction, once it's done I'll start getting mirror drops left and right. Shags has a mirror, he knows this.
Nonsense. I just got a drop from a normal mob in a normal area that generated an extremely rare item. Understanding how random behavior works has nothing to do with my drop. Gods have nothing to do with it. Random stuff happens all the time. It's only when people start trying to say WHY random stuff happened that we get nonsense like this.

Extremely rare events trigger something in the human brain. They compare the likelihood of that happening to the likelihood that there really are gods controlling our destinies and come to the wrong conclusion. It's natural. It needs to be fought with knowledge and understanding.

RNG in POE es quite simple to understand

This league for me is: Got 5 corruption chambers total, 5 of then destroyed item.

Really fun this range, its really fun how range can kill my fun and make me want to play other game.
At the RL gathering in SF I asked Chris if he'd be willing to discuss how the game determines randomly generated loot. What decisions were made when, as far as loot dropping, etc.

He was not inclined to divulge than information.

He did share some interesting information about cyclone and why it needed to be nerfed. I do not believe it ever was.
