Do you really need to sextant block ??

I dont even use sextants at all, never mind sextant block. No fucks given, I wouldnt even chaos a map unless it was literally impossible for the build im playing because of reflect.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
Why yes you do need to use a broken mechanic.

Same, but chaosing maps? Just scour alc, its cheaper, and temp chains is something i hate running aswell.
If you don't want to block, don't use sextants. Because you're only getting a tiny fraction of their value without blocking.

I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago.

yeah in a league i scour alch instead of chaos, in standard id chaos instead of scour alch. Either way Id only do it if the map is a 'nope' map, I wouldnt do it to increase quantity or packsize, i wouldnt go for a better roll is what Im saying, not unless this was some extreme situation like Im about to run an elder T15 and maybe occasionally in that situation on standard Ill take a notion and sextant it a bit, throw on a zana and make sure its a decent roll just cause I want to try my luck for a good high level base item. Extremely rare situation, theres exceptions like this, but generally for running maps day to day i wouldnt bother with sextants, wouldnt bother with rerolling for good mods, unless it was a high tier map like 13+ I wouldnt even chisel it.

I refuse to play temp chains too, but then I have a number of juggers that are immune so if its standard Ill just save the map for them.

At this point, may I ask for a short explanation what sextant blocking is? I'm really new to this.

All I know is it guarantees certain affixes on a map, so people use sextants on surrounding maps to get "bad affixes" around a target map of interest, so that the central map that isn't sextanted cannot roll these bad affixes.

Would be useful if you want to run a particular map repeatedly, like Spider Forest.

Other than that, I'm not sure how I incorporate it into my Atlas, since I just play to complete it and try get Shaper/Elder appearance.

you got it - thats exactly what it is. you do that and then go ham with the 'good' affixes that usually consist of pack size additions/strongboxes/etc and farm the same map 24/7

Im not sure why some act like it's complicated when it's not. provided you know/learn that overlapping sextants cannot roll same mods.

I think the main issue with sextants that its very polarizing. if you want to be super efficient/pushing ladder you have to use them and as a result have to play very few maps (and in this league miss out on the war), and if you dont they're pretty useless in terms of rarity and output.

basically you come into a situation where if youre not SSF, you're economically better off selling sextants if youre not sextant blocking than actually using them sporadically

As someone who isn't into super efficient repeat running of a single map, I'm just wondering how I can do some basic use of sextants. Like maybe, use a sextant and try to get one or two affix/s onto maps I like? Not the conventional blocking sense.
I dont do the efficient shit either. with 150 maps available running the same map or two all over is too much for me. Ive had enough of baal runs in d2.

just spam some on the map youd like to run and nearby map...thats as much as advice I can give lol.

I usually would do that when I get a ton of sextants by hoarding and I reach red maps. back before war youd shape maps and get some white/yellow maps so you can have some fun by just spamming whatever around it by using white/yellow sextants mostly, and running it.

now I think its harder to do with the new maps, war and shapers orb given through questline only so you have to use a lot more red sextants with red maps
Yeah, unless i've got loads of sextants and maps to play around with I think I am going to just ignore them for the time being and hopefully build up a big pool of maps from tier 8 to 9 to 10 and see what happens.
