While I'm happy for those who like maps... I'm so disappointed for those waiting for nonmap endgame

Yeah fuck that I love end game I play for end game not this story shit w/e you guys like.

2nd reply in the thread references an endless ledge alternative

(not sure how that would be terribly exciting long-term, though, which is probably why GGG didn't take Maelstrom of Chaos in that direction)

Mapping needed love badly. In 3.0, there are exactly 2 maps worth playing. 2. TWO. That's shit.
Hopefully 3.1 wont be as shit and this change will be legit for those of us who like mapping.

If you dont like maps, alternative endgame in 3.1 is farming Acuity.

I'll wade into this argument, with my eyes wide open.

I'll start with - I'm a shit player. I've managed to kill Normal Atziri exactly 3 times. RNG absolutely hates me and this combined with only a couple of hours per week makes things in leagues very difficult. I also don't play path of trading so I'm normally very broke (1 or 2 ex drops per league *IF* I am very lucky - chaos recipe is my friend)

I'd love to be able to try my hand at harder content but i never get maps over T12. So these new maps might just be a bit of a godsend for me, if they are gated behind guardians though its just more content that I will never ever see. That's a shame because it puts players like me (and there are a lot of us) so much further behind the flippers and 1% elites.

I'm really hoping that they are not gated and those realm shaped rares provide some alternatives for myself and others (yes, I know its power-creep)

Cheers,
Matt.

let me just say, i was once like you - all it takes is playtime. if you can dedicate a few hours a day then you'll be able to complete the entire game, all challenges, and multiple builds PER LEAGUE.
and let me tell you, it completely revolutionizes the game. playing the game because its decent fun is great and all, but you're only getting 5% of what PoE can offer you. if and when you're able to lay down some semi-decent dedicated playtime then this game ramps up to 11 in fun.

also, honestly im not sure what people are after if you're not interested in the endgame. if you're not into grinding endgame, then this is the wrong genre of game for you - especially PoE. at least some other arpgs take 50x longer to level up than poe does. poe can see you in maps within 12 hours easy. within a day (20 hrs playtime) by basically anybody no matter how slow.

this game has always been about maps, and may always be about maps. i don't see anything wrong with that, because thats how i see this game. its always been that way so its what i expect. to me that is what this game is. maps.
I am very worried about this one... the idea that you can get a 9L two hander or chest armor at the cost of a few mods is pretty scary. We'll see what the min-maxers come up with.

More maps doesn't really change mapping. It just adds variety. The idea of more map-specific drops kind of pisses me off. Still haven't seen a steel ring or a crystal belt. Probably be unaffected by the new changes as well.

Looks like there's going to be less shenanigans with white sextants affecting high tier maps. That's good.

I'd prefer an alternative non-storyline leveling.

Power Creep? More like Power Leap...

(I'm hoping "socketed games are supported with" modifiers are not allowed on items that already have 6L available, but the prospective of 3x, 4x, maybe even 6x6L on a build is a little bit scary. N-1 for 1-hand builds of course.)

Most endgame items and challenges are found in maps. Is where you get to level 90+ and get fully geared to smash the hardest bosses. Map changes are great and campaing alredy offers enough hours of challenge and lore for someone that is new to game.

Last expansion was a huge story mode expansion. I mean way above and beyond as far as story mode goes. So why is it bad that we now get an endgame expansion? I'd say a lot more people play this game for the endgame rather than the story mode.

It seems pretty selfish to get a huge expansion for the part of the game that you like, then complain that the next one is not also for the part of the game you like when lots of people see that part as being the lesser part of the game.

Excuse me... Its not about getting more Story, its about getting Storymode a place longer than 3hours in the game...

With 3.0, GGG enlarged Storymode's penis but what it really needs is viagra, because if its not harder content it wont be good endgame

Add a mechanic that allows you to play story areas with lets say lvl 70 areas, and you would have a shitload of people grinding those areas for fun and to farm divination cards
ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it
The map system is the very bases of the economy sink, progression, and build benchmarking.

What could possibly replace it?

Yeah I'd enjoy that one for sure. Needs to happen imho.

I've also been a long-time proponent for the Endless Ledge / original Maelström of Chaos mechanic as an alternative to maps. Just make them drop no maps, keep xp/hr on equal levels as mapping, and throw it out there! I don't see how that would hurt things, giving people options.

Why are people talking about replacing/removing maps?

All im saying is that we have yet to get a buff to Lore areas endgame buff but get Maps buff and content each patches
