Its a fact that the labyrinth's traps and general design introduced a complete new "requirement", complete different to the genre's base philosophy. I even would go so far to equal this with a 'feature' that would demand you to win a pvp fight (real, not rogue exile) as part of ingame progress (mainline, not sidequest).

If the reward (or a part of it) becomes significant or even mandatory, this has to be rethinked. And from the comparison between the ascendancy nodes to the general game balance, I'd say we've reached this point - especially with some truly unique node abilities. I think 3.0 is a good chance for a (slightly) adaption and should be used.

But to make it clear: I'm not against the lab as a whole. But maybe its possible to part it into the ascendancy part (single use) and the enchantment part (multiple uses). It even could be 'solved' in shape of a 'mainline' for ASC and more or less complex side pathings for the enchants. (maybe a bit 'strange' if you have to fight Izaro for both; but he shows up three times already anyways...)

For the mainline path: I think in this 'challenge' the difficulty should come more from the monsters (ARPG-alike) then from the traps. To not easify it too much, it could set a new, not too low, maximum level to access it (for the setup we know yet: 50/70/85?).

I uninstalled when cruel izaro one-shot me when I was 15 levels higher than him. until that change to how you get ascension points is made, I won't play again
since I have no hope for significant game design improvements in this game I am officially done with Path of Exile. done for good
