The ethical good is the long-term practical.

This is the sense in which I mean there is ultimately just one relevant dichotomy, into which all other dichotomies feed in a complex pattern: to do or not to do — the dichotomy of human choice. Knowledge that does not inform human choice, even obliquely, is worthless.
