We deployed and then reverted this patch due to problems. Working on fixing them now.

Version 0.10.1d
  • If you log into your account from a different city using the game client, your account will now become locked and an email will be sent to you with an unlock code. Entering this code will unlock your account. If this occurs to you when you haven't changed location, then someone else has your password and you should change it immediately.

This has effectively ruined the game for me lol I travel alot for work and play on my laptop so I will play in 3-5 different cities each week. Wonder what will happen if my account gets locked 15+ times a month... a few week ban maybe a permanent one throwing my CB support pack down the toilet.

First time ever that I'm unhappy with a GGG idea:(

Don't worry, we will add functionality to disable the security (which is fine if you keep your password safe) or potentially lock it to a country or add multiple cities. We didn't include these in this version so we could rush the safety in.

It would be nice for those that DO have a static IP address to be able to (Optionally of course) limit access via IP.

Agreed

Are people going to get a 1 time exception item restore now that you have a really good method of security and locking accounts?

Nope, for the same reasons we didn't before (see my long posts that are stickied in General Discussion).

Who do we contact for refunds then? as we paid before this policy that you pick and choose who it applies too?

For refunds, contact support@grindinggear.com.

The only cases we have ever restored accounts are when it was directly our fault it was hacked. The one you are referring to was when one of our support workers accidentally assigned an account to an impersonator (which won't happen again).

The account compromises we have been seeing from China over the last couple of weeks are due to either:
a) Hack programs with keyloggers, such as that maphack and zoomhack everyone is going to get banned for
b) People using passwords that are already on giant email/password lists hacked from other services

Those two account for about 90% of the compromises (with phishing links, etc being the remainder) and are completely outside of our control. In order to combat these, we created this patch (working very long hours to get it in fast).

The policy stats any theft, it's still theft if your employees get tricked. social engineering is a common theft tatic. Also do you have any proof that it wasn't him or his friend? If you're basing it only off IP addresses it's not hard to connect to a proxy to change the IP address. There was no exception policy that depending on who is at fault items may or may not get restored. At least publicly that we can agree too.

I've contact support and it's been 48 hours. should I email them again?

I completely agree that if there's any doubt the policy should be absolute. In this case we are certain what happened and that no items were let into the economy. We got it fast enough.

Can you mail me at chris@grindinggear.com to discuss your support issue? Thanks!

"Saved login details now only work if you're connecting from the same IP you saved them on."

This is bulls*!t.
I change IP often, I don't want to retype my password everytime I want to play.
If I choose save password it keep my password, no matter what IP I have.

We've seen this is unsafe over the last few weeks. We can add it as an option if you want to opt-in to it...

Are you using Windows XP?

We're still working on the XP crash - shouldn't be too long now.

The Windows XP fix is very close. We have isolated the problem and are building a minor update to fix it now.
