HoT is not an AoE attack (it hits one enemy at a time). Therefore it does not qualify to benefit from Area damage. However, the radius for which it can hit CAN be affected by AoE.

Yo, have you thought about trying a +3 lightning staff with an empower instead of realm ender? I feel like you could juice up the damage a lot that way. Also if you are getting enough damage from HoT you could slot utility stuff in boots like innervate/cull/curse on hit/increased crit.

" I actually have two +3 lightning staves. I tried one with all the damage gems possible (except empower) and it was no better. You also lose the free cold to fire gem. I have been trying to get 4b on the boots so i can run innervate, no luck yet.
