You can (potentially) do without aoe. Try just using conc. (TRY), assuming you have Beacon of ruin.

Your rings are extremely bad. I'm sure you can get better rings (both) for 4c. Just do the chaos recipe.

You can try to keep fire pen over less duration if you feel like it. Damage will be better. The quality of life that less duration provides is nice too. Pretty sure fire pen is better than empower lvl 3. I think I would probably go for fire pen + less duration myself.


i have to take some dext and then i change the ring.
i don't think, empower lv 3/4 is better then any other skill in the game if ur build is focusing on level of the skill like EA (or SRS). Lv 21 ea and emp lv 4 is a must have. i use AoE for the overlap of explosion which is awesome

Absolutely loving the build! 6L'd a Quill Rain a week back and decided to which to this build. I'd love your input on next steps for gear! I'm thinking either Jewel investments, or getting that unique ammy and switch to rare gloves for resists. Any input would be great!

Get a new rearguard! This is reducing your damage by a lot! Assuming you are using EE this will proc bad ee. (phiz to fire corruption) Make sure your attacks don't deal any fire damage!

Then I'd say Ngamahu tiki. Jewels I can't comment. In general try to avoid the two toned boots if possible. They are nice, but if you can cap resists without them you can instead have a nice boot enchant on them. The helm enchant is nice. Maybe try selling the helm and get a new one.

If you need more damage you could try and get the Doryani's belt (if you play soft core). Your belt is nice tho.

After that you can check the gear that I linked in the thread. I did end up using rare quivers over the Rearguard. Getting a +1 to arrows would be awesome.

1) would it make any sense to do: molten shell - immortal call - increase durate - cdwt
2) how much acc do i need. i have now 83% hit chance, is it good or bad, should i work on more acc?
3) is it somehow possibel to find out my dps, on my old arc char i can see it on tooltip on the spell, but with ae it is not working.

You can only see the attack part of the "damage" which is negligible. It is only useful to see if you proc EE correctly. The calculus is not the easiest one since there is a few things you have to put in. (elemental damage, curses, penetration, El. Overload, EE) It also depends on your tree, gems, and even gear. So you need to gather a lot of info. Honestly I don't think it's worth it.

And then we have 2 parts of damage the explosion and the burn damage. So 2 calculations are needed.

The best answer I can give you is that you should do a lot of damage, if you are doing everything right. ;)

Vaal lightning trap provides shocking ground for a very reasonable duration. Especially when linked to increased duration.

I see that you said Atziri (normal) was do-able but I am getting wrecked by her despite high lvls and pretty decent gear. Do you have any advice on how to beat her?

The Atziri fight is a wonderfully mechanical fight. She can wreck you indeed. Assuming you don't have problems to get to Atziri the main thing to know is to pick your moments to attack. You have to be moving ALL THE TIME or you will die. Don't shoot the miror clone in the split phase. You can curse her with Flammability. HOWEVER the curse will reflect back to you so you have to be over capped accordingly! Use LMP or culling strike instead of GMP. You should probably just recolor the quill to 2r 2g 2b. Even better, get a second quill rain. Getting +1 to arrows will help a lot in (chaotic) fights such as Atziri.

This is the most intensive mechanical fight in the game. It will take you practice to learn how it works. You can use Ruby and Topaz flask to mitigate damage. Main thing is shoot and RUN! :) You can also analyze video footage (Youtube). It might even be a good idea to record yourself so you can see when you make mistakes.

The pieces are relatively cheap. I think you just need practice. But know that she can only be ignited in the split phase.
