Hacked here too. No 3rd party programs, other game accounts not hacked. All my maps, orbs, and any gems/items worth anything are gone. It was fine last night at 12 CST when I logged off and today at 6:00 when i logged on everything was gone.....

Pretty discouraging. And once again I did not use any 3rd party programs or any of the other stuff that is in the OP.

From your posts i can see you are not a computer person. Maybe you should spend a little of your precious playing time for education (networking basics, and stuff).

I would really like a option to "ignore" posts from certain people on the forums (like in the game).

Hahaha how the fuck did you come up with that idea... Clearly you haven't seen my posts.

I'm 25 I've have to deal with more customer service bullshit then most on this forums. I've had fedex send my package (laptop) to another "address" and got them to buy me a new laptop. I've have had apple replace a phone that was clearly not under warranty. ect ect. Ok I'm bleeding emotion point? I'm pissed that my computer has no trace of any unauthorized access (cross verified by other co workers) and my items are gone and they will not do anything about it.

We do lock out accounts for multiple incorrect password attempts! The threshold is higher than 3 though, because users often legitimately take quite a few attempts to get their password right. There's no way they can effectively brute-force passwords in an online manner, and we'd be able to see that in our access logs.

This is just flat out a lie. I've just entered 10 incorrect passwords in less then a minute and then able to log in... This is why I'm also pissed because GGG lies out their ass. Any one can try this.

I can't wait for GGG nut swingers to answer this one.

Not restoring items I feel is a pathetic response to the issue at hand. Telling the person they're out on their ass. Especially over something you were warned, and you acknowledged to us in CBT. It's not like you didnt see it coming, dont lie because we talked about it during CBT. You cannot claim ignorance on this issue. 'Tis impossibru.

You were warned, failed to act, people are losing hours and hours of their time because of your failure to act, and as a result they are told to essentially "deal with it". That is garbage level CS. It really truly is.

It's 2013, you have an economy in a game that is CRITICAL to its success and you dont prepare yourselves with authentication either through google or your own authentication yaaaaaaaaa you 'dun goofed.

you were warned, glad to see you guys are working on some fixes, but too little to late for those that were hacked.

Everyone seems to be a certified security penetration specialist here, hind-sight is 20/20 btw.

Please provide for me a verified example of a user being hacked with Authentication in place? Because as much as blizzard fails at a lot of shit, across 3 games they have succeeded with authentication. I stopped playing GW2 awhile back, but hacking started being a huge problem so they switched to google authentication and it seemingly destroyed almost all hacks occuring. No I'm not a security expert, I couldnt tell you which method is better however I did study crim theory in university and essentially CPED (crime prevention by environmental design) stops all but the most determined of criminals in regards to theft. Authentication is a form of CPED in my eyes in the cyber world.

Oh and hey look im not a security specialist and I called exactly what was going to happen, as did many other users. We also called exactly how to stop it. I added this in a PM to chris a long with a lot of other ideas to which he responded with they brought the ideas on board and were talking about them.

It's like a country being warned of incoming Virus and the health organization of that country refusing to do the work to circulate a vaccination for it. Madness.

Just woke up to find a couple of ridiculous pm's. I'd just like to clarify a couple of things:

- I haven't been "hacked" or had anything stolen yet. My rant wasn't related to any personal loss. It was just the basic principle that players are being squarely blamed when it looks just as plausible (if not probable) that this is session sidejacking via interception and therefore would not necessarily be the fault of the end user and may not require the password for the account they are gaining access to (we still haven't been given any clarification on that, though I can understand why).

- About that: I visited a couple of potentially questionable PoE fansites for research purposes. I'm pretty sure my home pc is infected by 90% of the prominent porn sites on the internet, and wouldn't be surprised to find half a dozen key loggers hidden by disgruntled former staff of mine. Yet my stash and my characters are all still here. Weird huh?

- I wasn't saying that I think I know what's going on. I was simply raising possibilities that seem to have been ruled out without explanation. Again, in many of these cases it looks more like sessions being hijacked than accounts being hacked. There is a pertinent difference between the two.

"You were warned, WITCH!!!"
- Merveil, Path of Exile Witch Trailer

Congratulations guy. Finished patting yourself on the back? Feel good now? Feel like the Oracle of the internets for predicting the future of Path of Exile?

Now GTFO cos you can't read - like the rest of the whining fools spitting about their lost stuff.

This thread should be closed - it's idiot bait. First they get their accounts hacked (and yes, at least some of those may be legitimately 'innocent') then they don't read the dev post properly and with adult logic hats on to be able to read between the lines and extrapolate meaning in areas that aren't touched on in detail. Like the tosser who thinks you can blame the security guy for everything and 'that's that'.

Complete waste of time leaving this thread open unless you want a place for babies to cry over spilt milk (that they don't own (ToS)).

Rage much child? I wasnt hacked, I'm simply stating this whole mess was preventable if actions were taken when they were told it would happen. Also, welcome to 2013 where government officials and security experts get hacked. SO you think the common gamer at the end of the day is going to be able to combat this on their own? This is why authentication is crucial. You can blame the security guy? easily? its 2013 where probably the majority of gamers play on compromised systems and authentication heavily combats this problem. In times of peace prepare for war. Whoever was on their security issues was not preparing for war, and it's clearly obvious now.

yeah the game is free congrats for pointing that out. Now realize that a f2p games success comes largely based on word of mouth and good user based reviews. PoE is a hardcore design style ARPG. That's not a broad please everyone kind of thing to make, but there is a large enough niche for it to grow and flourish with old school gamers and newer ones finally coming around to see the trash they were playing was... well.. trash. However if they want to get people to pay to support the game, they need to show players it's worth the investment.

A game with terribad servers, and hacks galore isn't really the best foot forward so to speak on attracting new people. Especially when someone new is going to check the website, maybe browse the forums and see "oh? you were hacked.... too bad, deal with it". I wouldnt join a game where I saw that, ever.

I'm already here, I've already supported with something like 100$, I brought 6ish people with me who play this now full time, I played CBT and gave feedback, I actively strive to make this game better. I wasnt hacked.

the only thing that's changed for me personally is that I wont support this game financially anymore unless I see authentication added. Why? because I want to see this game succeed and I'm only going to support it if I see its direction heading to the top. Fixing dsync is a no brainer it was never this bad in CBT. However the failure to listen to the CBTs on this hacking issue has been a huge blunder, and until it is properly addressed with authentication I wont sink another cent, or bring another oldschool gamer here. That's just the reality.

people tell them alot but resources are limited @ggg. they could have easily moved open beta further into 2013 and fix more things but people complained massively about it.

first priority is a game which is fun and runs stable. this is what they did.

ps: the best method against account theft is to have no currency :)

To my understanding they could have just used google authentication which is what gw2 did. Regardless it was an investment required to maintain the stability and health of Wraeclast and was overlooked.

The point, my soft-headed little friend, is that the fact that you and your cronies of all-knowing wisdom made your wise (utterly obvious) prediction has no bearing on GGG's handling of the situation. You're like a TV Faith Healer lol - here, I'll have a go: "Soon, Oh Father Chris of the Wilsonian Persuasion, you will have an update that fails and ends up with more server downtime than anticipated. All Hail My Nuts."

Want a medal for stating the obvious?

Blame the security guy? What I'm saying is: what do WE know about the internal structure of GGG and how the issue was handled? Love how all you "experts" can spout your wisdom from OUTSIDE the group of people you're accusing. No matter how much you might know about a field from the inside you still don't know how a group of people from another culture (perhaps) are handling it!

Yes, I'm a petulant child - it's my natural response to the pompous, superior tone of your post.
