Chain and fork are grossly outdated
Well, wondering about Far Shot, Point Blank, overlapping explosion shotgunning, hitting the same target with subprojectiles (however that would happen), etc.
I'm assuming it inherits all properties of the original projectile. Zaanus:

In that sense they are all from the same cast / skill use, so no shotgunning.
With Point blank, if projectile hit something at the start of movement, it should retain the "more" bonus for the whole flight... tin_foil_hat and raics already explained this.... Far shot is calculated on the distance to the player, not the origin of projectile (ask any trapper). .... On the other hand I saw some newe way for "shotgunning" recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NetPiX9P7SE ...all cast going in the same direction are from different traps so game mechanic treat it as separate casts. |

Well, yeah, that is nothing new.
Didn't know about Farshot, though, that means you could potentially stack it with PB. Eh, not like I'd ever. Food for thought, for another day. Zaanus:

" So, not to say you're definitely wrong--Mark has claimed that the game works in fucking bizarre ways in the past--but for pierce and chain that seems like a completely pointless resource management and computational hassle. It's quite easy to just edit the velocity and graphically-displayed direction of an existing 3D object, and comparatively annoying to make new ones (though fork has to). Otherwise, why wouldn't they make a new "character" every time you clicked a mouse button? ;P You have to start a totally new animation whenever that happens, after all~ Last edited by codetaku#0468 on Jun 21, 2016, 12:15:44 PM

" Yea, that's sound reasonable... unfortunatly. But looking at how my friends get screen freezes everytime their try CoC or high chain-pierce builds... I really would prefer my theory xD |

" That's fun you mention it ! When perandus came, I builded a Deadeye Chain Barrage with Roth's reach and elemental flat damage boost + prismweave belt. Honestly ??? Carried me to maps easily ! Went bored of perandus pretty fast so couldnt test it on mid/endgame maps but was hell cheap and fun AND efficient. Barrage +3x volley fire + 2 chains was effective. |

" Can you send me your tree? I Just got this bow and Doomfletch Prism and I cannot decide which one would be better to go with - Doomfletch Prism works pretty much like facebreaker-bow so it's really nice one but I am not sure how much you can squeeze out fo this +1 to chain. |

If you want to destroy everything with chain, just copy my character Steel_Blossoms. Oneshots everything, bosses included.
A few details: - the summon ice golem and the GMP gem's places in the CwdT setups should be switched, they are misplaced - switch chain with GMP for tough single targets (not necessary for anything except t13 + bosses and Atziri) - switch aurseize with facebreakers, item rarity with controlled destruction and haste with hatred to maximize damage (again unnecessary for anything but t13+ maps) - you'll need to replace the blue gem slot (item rarity/controlled destruction) with lifeleech (replaced by added fire or empower 4 for boss bursting) if you don't have the atziri flask, otherwise you'll sometimes die to reflect mobs. Use a basalt flask if you don't have Tate of Hate. ToH is a great damage boost though - vaal lightning trap for shock is also unnecessary for anything but the toughest bosses My gear is pretty good but it works well with budget gear too. It's a glass cannon, don't expect to level past ninety-something. 4800 hp and 900 ES is not bad but you WILL die from time to time, especially while leveling and gearing up and still getting the hang of the build. You'll want to go ES-based and have at least 8k ES if you want to avoid random oneshots. I'm pretty sure you could make a similar build with a Deadeye by replacing the chain gem with increased critical strikes but IMO the assassin is optimal. You have to be realistic about these things. " Check at my profile, "Chainingeye" character :) Maybe it was not perfect, but it worked pretty well for me. Build is falling a bit at the end of cruel but it can be solved playing a few herald/auras i guess |

Biggest issue with chain is that it neuters your single target where as pierce will allow you to 1 shot t14 bossses with the right setup whilst not actually clearing any faster than pierce vs trash mobs unless its a hyper-open map like arid like. There is literally no longer any reason to use chain anymore.
The baseline of skills has reached such a profoundly high point that any 6 linked skill that does not do both full screen devastation in addition to 1 shotting bosses is now considered trash. Being able to ignore a second 6 link and use either koams or a shield is simply too beneficial. One defining trait of meta skills are they can act as both ST and AOE and GGG pushed the game in this diretion by giving bosses 20% flat chance to drop a map whilst nerfing red map exp. " Yeah you can certainly swap out chain for a ST oriented setup or you can just walk up to them and 1 shot them with pierce. Yes it only takes a few seconds but in a meta where highly optimized builds can clear T13 maps in 90 seconds, every second counts. Plus it just gets painful after the 100th gem swap just to make your skill work. IGN: Arlianth
