It is currently detrimental for a player to report these RMT spammers in global chat.

that's ok if you're looking for a pragmatic solution for yourself, if you care for the game it's not.

Hahaha. Good one. Next you want me to code future expansions myself too?

imagine you're a new player and you see the chat full of rmt adverts, wouldn't you get the impression that it's probably tolerated by the game designers if you see the same people spamming this shit over and over again?

if ignoring works for you it's fine but mods have to at least try to fight the spam.

introducing chat barriers for new players (like limiting them to some kind of help chat channel) is a hard decision to make.

new players are already crippled by the no-trade limit till level 25 which surely requires some serious time investment to many of them.

AKA the current situation. Or what, you think it's not tolerated because GGG bans the bots every ~5 minutes instead of doing some changes that prevent instant botting like that?

:)

I'll take the high road this time and just quote this part.
[s]only mindless sheep think labyrinth is OK to have in PoE.[/s]
okay nevermind labyrinth, fix dx9 blackscreen instead...
Put a CAPTCHA on the chat, haha, slow down everyone's spam.

Or give everyone a few free chat's every so often and then CAPTCHA, say 2 a minute.

You also don't need to ignore them. They aren't going to continue talking after we've banned them, so you just fill up your ignore list.
unless its an ip ban and ip tracker, im not expecting them to just stop, people usually end up spamming anyways and you cant really do anything about it
I usually do not read popular posts again after i made a comment on it, unless it's one of my own. I wish to have a Black robed Grim Reaper micro set in game one day, grant my wish, GGG
yep let the players level longer to have access to tradechat

like level 25 or something like that - we cant trade under that level anyways

that solves this problem too
Guild "Metal" /// POE 1+2 /// NO voice-chat necessary

if it's the same account over and over again i would get the impression it's tolerated.

uhm, that's not clear enough?

if you're a starter and you currently can't trade or get items from friends till you spent some days with the game on average just because of a bot protection method, that's already a serious backdraw.

if new players additionally can't seek for help in forums for that time that would be too much imho.

It's not the same account over and over since every time I add a spammer to my friends list it shows as another account added as <character name>.

I didn't even know there was a pre-25 trade limitation so it may not be a problem. You definitely don't need any kind of good gear to get that far, I know I sure didn't on my very first trip through the acts. Hell, I was so bad I didn't even realize the significance of links until sometime in Cruel and I still made it that far. Running with unlinked skills was a struggle for sure but yes, I really did that.

I would think it would be easy for GGG to implement a newbie channel and have every new character autojoin it. Then have a GGG spam bot to post random messages at random 1-5 minute intervals (Because GGG loves RNG). The messages would be along the lines of:

"Be sure to talk to Eramir about chatting in Path of Exile, he will show you how to chat to the world"
"Real money trading (RMT) is illegal in Wraeclast, please report offenders"
"Newbie help is also available online at <clickable link to newbie help area of forum>"
... and all of the load screen helpful tips.

Also from my experience in other online games it seems like there are always at least a few helpful people who would monitor the newbie channel in case they might find a genuine chance to help someone. I think it potentially would be far better than global for real newbies seeking help. Maybe even name it help channel instead of newbie channel and encourage anyone needing any kind of help to use that channel.

recommended practice to have second accounts to sell stuff. you run a separate client in a vm on your second screen and don't have to leave your map to trade...

I was "Implementer" on a MUD for a while back in the 90's and we combated this by making users attain level 10 before global chats were open to them. If you were under level 10 and tried to enter chat you were greeted with the sentence "You are to young to go shouting about. (You need to be level 10 to use this feature.)"

I think that would help quite a bit here as well. And level 10 can be attained in this game in a matter of minutes if you are a real player.
