The fun's disappeared. Why GGG?

well and I was trying to say, in the context of d&d, it does make sense to have enemies either miss, hit, or one-shot you, all at the whim of a die.

really the only similarity is that both games use some degree of randomness, unlike e.g. some puzzle games (or chess puzzles)

whatever, I think we agree that these games are different animals altogether ;-)
since I have no hope for significant game design improvements in this game I am officially done with Path of Exile. done for good
Haha I love how this changed into a thread about the greatest fucking game of all time (BG2). However firkrag (and even Kan'gaxx or whatever that demilich's name was) are easy before underdark / chasing Irenicus :D The system was imho quite flawed, but still funny as hell. Actually I just played through it a few times while waiting for awakening xD
It's amazing to hear the people denying all this. The fact is, 90% of people seem to agree with this considering the content of other forum posts. So when considering that 90% agree this isn't fun, it doesn't really matter one bit the crap you feel like spewing. People have opinions, your opinions aren't the only ones that matter (grepman). And saying the opposite of what 90% of everyone else is saying just looks... well, let's face it- it looks like ass kissing.

I'm at the point today of going 'fuck this' to bad mechanics, poor design choices and anti-fun inclusions (ground particles which players can't modify, map DCs, awful trade system, map gating, oneshot mechanics, I'm looking at each of you!).

I'd love to see a proper manifesto post which goes into *any* detail on the why of some of the changes have been made, and whether there's consideration of backing any of them out. Yes, the why. Not 'we did this/we will do this'. That doesn't tell me anything. Not some poorly thought out PR such as '+2 map drops can get players in trouble!'. Actual reasons.

- I'm not psyched to be levelling another enlighten just to I can eventually spec one of my characters.
- I'm not loving the extreme RNG any more, if I ever did. Not to mention the constant nerfs to anything good/usable.
- I'm not keen on getting single level 71 map drops in bullet hell oneshot high level maps. Presuming I can get there without DCing.
- I'm not feeling pumped about the level of defenses/life needed just to be running said maps. Or the repeated inclusion of cheap oneshots into the 'main' game (ball lightning obelisks ftw, for example).
- I'm growing bored of listening to my computer whinge at all the particles. Which I can't turn down because... Developer says so.
- A flood of new content has been added... just not tuned or even tested (why didn't the map DC issue come up and get fixed in beta?).
- I haven't had a drop in the last 6 months that is of any real use.

Many things about 2.0 are telling me don't bother. Don't bother trying to be in high level maps (might as well run 5 73s rather than a 76-77). Don't bother waiting for better eq, because it's not going to drop and divination cards won't get it for you either. Don't bother investing into a character or skill, because it'll get ripped up. Don't expect your ARPG character to play like one; expect random, and worse, cheap deaths.

Don't fight it; it's not worth the trouble. Ok, I get it. Thanks.

Completely agree. The only thing this game has going for it is the massive skill tree and skill gems. Sure, the game has build variety.. not a lot is viable tho, but that's besides the point. Killing monsters does not feel satisfying. Farming gear does not feel rewarding.. in fact I stopped picking up rares because I haven't found a single upgrade since cruel. The graphics are not great but acceptable. The engine is horrible.. there's not a single AAA game out today that makes my PC sound like an airplane taking off yet this game manages to do just that. In-game streaming makes the fps drop to ~20 while I have no problems with OBS/XSplit. 99% of uniques are bad, completely going against the build variety they claim this game has. So far I have 3 tabs full of junk uniques and not a single one of them is worth more than a couple chaos orbs.
Using currency is not worth it because it's better spent buying items from other people. In 99% of cases this is cheaper and guaranteed. Playing the RNG game will only make you poor.

The root of the problem are the people on the front page of Twitch's PoE directory. They typically don't have jobs (streaming IS their job) and get maps and gear spoonfed to them by all their viewers. Then when GGG sees that streamers are absolutely facerolling all maps with 300% IIR they come to the conclusion that the builds/gear used are overpowered and there's too many drops resulting in the nerf of everything. Yet they forget that not everyone is like that. The people that have actual jobs play this game when they get off work and in the weekends. They don't have as much time to invest as these streamers. If this was a niche game I could get behind this. I'm a competitive super smash bros melee player and I love it when companies listen to their most diehard fans but considering how big this game has gotten over the last couple of years you can't ignore the majority of people in favor of a couple well known people.

I'm not saying that this game needs to be super easy but I think the difficulty should be lowered, many items and nodes on the skill tree SIGNIFICANTLY buffed and for christ's sake stop nerfing what works! Instead of that, make other builds ON PAR with the rest so you can stop wasting people's time having to re-roll every single time and kissing their builds goodbye.
GGG needs to take a big step back and look at the PROBLEMS this game has before moving on to developing more content. Take the time and make this game enjoyable for EVERYONE.

I dropped 60$ on an Axiom supporter pack a couple days ago until I just.. decided I spent enough time on this game. Now I regret doing so because the best way is to vote with your wallet and now I'm already too late.
I will definitely consider trying this game again in the future if some of these issues are addressed but for now it's just not worth it.

In the meantime for everyone that shares the same views I can only say please keep this thread alive and let your opinions be heard.

Made 95 today with my cycloner. Felt deflating, not exhilarating. Cbf to go for another level.

Am I psyched to start another build or play warbands? Hell no... I'm not even psyched to try and spec the remaining 12-14 characters into the 3-build meta. Maybe 4 with poison arrow.

Anyhow thanks all for the on-topic comments and also for the usual 'learn to play' nonsense which kept this post bumped ;)

Did someone pointed out that GGG can easily see if some build/item/boss is OP? You just count number of deaths and if you see some deviation you can look into it and consider adjustment. As for RNG: don't try to beat it, work around it. Main selling point of RNG is that it makes game addictive/playable. It often sucks but that's what made D2 playable.

face firkraag in bg 2 before you chase after irenicus and he will rape you. because he's a massive dragon. that is difficulty that is realistic in-universe

it's called d20 for a reason. best system ever

ps: btw, NOBODY was complaining about bg 1 or 2 being difficult back in the day. LOL

I always did both Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon before leaving after Irenicus in all my playthroughs. Don't know what you're talking about. I don't remember the exact levels, but I think I've done dragons as early as 10-11-ish. No cheesing with traps, just regular butt-kicking for goodness.

BG 1 or 2 wasn't difficult, that's why nobody was complaining. There were various extremely strong party compositions and builds, actually there are various ways to solo, 2-man or 3-man the entire game (SoA + ToB).

If you really want to power game, you can do a party of six where your main and both kensai mages can solo anything except perhaps Demogorgon.

It was fun precisely because there were various possibilities for players to break the game.
You have to be realistic about these things.
Logen Ninefingers
Demileech -> cheese with protection from undead and 1 weapon that can hit him (upgraded mace of distruption or daystar or carsomyr are good choices). I have never found a good way to kill him without proection from undead scrolls or slayer form. So scrolls are your best friend before underdark. Its a bit cheesy, but I want my ring ;)

Dragons -> buff up, haste, surround, go nuts at lvl 9-11. Mages with lower magic resistance (you can also use wands for this with BG2:EE) and "that level 4 spell that lowers all saves by 4 that I cannot remember the name of" -> spam spells with casters. They will go down fast. Especially if you have grabbed str 19 belt and gloves with 18/00 str, so you have at least 2 melee characters that actually hit hard :)

BG2 ftw =) Oh god I love that game.

Yeah got the same feeling and I'm not rocking end-game yet (started doing 70-72 maps)

My friends and I were hyped as hell for the expansion, sadly none of them are playing anymore.

The game got harder for sure but not in an interesting way. I havent finished act 4 on merciless (yes I still need to work on my dps) but the content from piety and up is just a fucking chore, its not even fun. (Daresso and Koam dream are really fun though).

Generally, I level up 2 or 3 characters through a league and respec some in standard but right now I'm not even interested in leveling a second one and all my character in standard with the new changes are kinda death
