Tormented Sadist?

So, I've just encountered a Ghost called "Tormented Sadist" in a canyon map. It dropped only a couple of rares. I've never seen it before and it doesn't appear in the PoE wiki either.
It does, however, appear in poe database alongside Tormented Conspirator and... Tormented Fisherman.

Were these ghosts added in 2.0? Has anyone else encountered them?

What? No!

I killed that spirit before Torment was even released!

Why do you haunt me spirit? WHY?

Spoiler
The Sadist and the Conspirator were our two test spirits, which we used to flesh out the Torment mechanics.

The Sadist had a lightning theme that was eventually re-used for the Storm Cultist, and the Conspirator was meant to have a buffing aura of some kind. We liked the flavour of the Conspirator a lot, but we could never fully agree on what would be a good mechanic set for it.

They were disabled from appearing once we started getting a few of the spirits you see on the final roster up and running, but never actually deleted.

This isn't the first time one of those have come back to haunt me though - on the very first day of Torment I spotted a conspirator while levelling in Riverways.

I quickly got in touch with the people at the office, and we discovered that the commit to disable them hadn't been included in the live version of the patch.

We fixed it quickly, and just kind of hoped nobody else noticed. Statistically, I can't have been the only one who encountered one that day though.

Thanks a lot for the answer Dan, but why did the spirit decide to come back now?

Yesterday I've encountered the Sadist ghost. It possessed the Coves map boss.

I usually just roflstomp all my maps with my ~20k Cyclone DPS, including rares and bosses. But this time I had to do something more. As the boss was just running away and occasionally did a Flicker Strike. His ES recharged after 2 sec or so, making me impossible to get to his life.

I had to use Abyssal Cry in order to kill him, to prevent the ES recharge.

Boy that was tedious. But at least he started attacking me when I've used Abyssal Cry, didn't do that when I've used Rallying or Enduring Cry, no idea why.

I just hope that ghost never possesses that Redband Flamelord with Searing Bond totem, that particular Redband monster needs to be deleted from the game, it's the only monster that runs away 100% of the time and it's just plain stupid to kill as a melee. Terrible monster design.

Have you guys ever considered releasing a one month league of just unused content? I'm sure there's a lot of broken things laying around in the databases waiting to rip players a new one.

Good question. I'll find out tomorrow, but until then I'm assuming revenge.

The problem here is that unused content is generally broken, unfun, half-implemented or all of the above, otherwise it'd have been used the first time around. It might be interesting to show some of this stuff, but I don't think it'd be an interesting one-month league.

We do have an unused prototype mechanic for the league that became Tempest lying around which needs a bit of exploring though. I think it's got potential. Just not potential that fit in Tempest.

Overall I'd prefer to revisit those ideas in new forms, to fit what we're currently doing where possible.

We have the stats to do it, but do we dare?

The tormented sadist is actually the spirit of GGG, tormented by its userbase for each nerf, but still it takes pleasure in the repeated deaths of exiles

I thought that'd be the whole point? Would make a hilarious shorter-league/race. Definitely not good for a true league, but as an optional (non-default) one? Would be worth the laughs! I'm hoping if others at GGG could see the humor value, it might even be able to launch as soon as the beginning of April.

As long as it's not a cut throat design i would play around with any broken mechanic for laughs or possibly input.

But then again, I though a Zana Untamed Paradise with Devourers was fun.
