Antnee's Classy Item Filter for Distinguished Exiles - 3.0

You're welcome!

I added 1.53 just now, which further refines SmartBlock tagging to make it much simpler to customize the script for specific builds, on the fly. For example, my Molten Strike Duelist only wants to see Claws, Shields, and Strength-based Boots/Gloves/Helmets/Armor. This is how I did it.

First, I search/replaced all instances of Show #Gear with Hide #Gear.
Then, I search/replaced all instances of Hide #Gear - Claws with Show #Gear - Claws. I repeated this for #Gear - STR Armor

Like this!

That's it. Now, when I level, I only see white/blue items if they have a potential to be an upgrade for the character I am playing.

Here you'll find a revised list of toggles, and a description in the spoiler. Note that some (like #Gear) are master control toggles, and have details on specific options in the spoiler.

#Misc - Chance Items
Items listed in the last block of section 000i will be shown (regardless of the status of other tags, such as #Gear). By default, only "Sacrificial Garb" is listed. You can add any items you wish to this block. Here are some suggestions that you can add yourself:

"Gold Ring" "Glorious Plate" "Occultist's Vestment" "Agate Amulet" "Prophecy Wand"
#Misc - Chisel Hammers
Stone Hammers, Rock Breakers, and Gavels to be used for the chisel recipe.
#Gems - Active Skill Gems 0 Quality
Any active skill gem (such as Heavy Strike, Ice Nova, Flameblast) with no quality.
#Gems - Support Gems 0 Quality
Any Support Gem (such as Multistrike, Blind, Mana Leech) with no Quality.
#Jewelry
#Jewelry is a master control tag that will toggle all white/blue Jewelry. There are a few specific tags to use in this catagory:

Magic Jewelry is hidden by default in maps.
#Flasks
#Flasks is a master control tag that will toggle all white/blue flasks. There are specific tags that control utility flasks, quality flasks, and life/mana flasks in maps, too.

#Gear
#Gear is a master control tag that will toggle all white/blue weapons and armor. There are specific tags that can be used to show/hide various weapon and armor types, too.

For example, #Gear - Claws controls whether you see level-appropriate claws, and #Gear - DEX Armor controls whether evasion based body armor, helmets, shields, boots, and gloves will appear. If you're playing a bow/two handed/dual wielding character, and you've already turned on #Gear - DEX Armor, you can disable shields by setting #Gear - DEX Armor (Shields) to hide.

The following is a list of specific gear types that can be individually controlled:

#Obsolete
Anything that is too far below your zone's level will be hidden by default.

#Obsolete - Exceptions for Links / Sockets should be left on, as it will show somewhat obsolete gear if it has a good number of links/sockets. The links/sockets requirement goes up as you level.

Significantly reorganized and rewrote the OP, and made edits to the customization tutorials section.

I was thinking about adding a questions and answers section. Particularly, questions like "How should I set this up for a bow ranger?" If you'd like me to add anything to a section like that, feel free to ask!

So good. Thanks a lot mate and keep it up.
Ok :)
A few thoughts:

1. add Neversink's green/red tinting to indicate good base vs bad base for rares, it is so beneficial to learning the names of good bases and figuring out what is worth IDing -- it should scale with zone level and can be purely based on zone level vs base item level

2. distinguish between 4-space chromatic items (easy to carry) vs 6/8-space ones (harder to fit for map runs) -- i like to pick up things like helms/gloves for RGB chrome recipe, sometimes chest armors, but not 2h weapons (unless the map is nearly complete)

3. the white tinted coloring on things like 6-links i actually find really hard to see on bright tilesets such as city of sarn, very hard to see for such an important item

Instead of your "Customization Tutorials" I feel it would be much better to just have multiple versions of the same script. You can toggle between them in-game so there is no reason to restrict to just a single filter. How about you find/replace for us, and we download the script that most closely matches our needs? It is too annoying for us to have to customize the filter to such a degree every time you update your version of the filter.

Believe it or not, I considered doing this. (it's actually very simple, and can be done in two blocks. I'll post them at the bottom) I didn't for a few reasons.

a) I believe it strays too far from "vanilla". Adhering as closely as possible to the original look of the game is the prime directive of my design philosophy here.

b) I don't think it's a very useful feature, and there are a few reasons why. Once you pick an item up, the filter is done; It can serve you no longer, and since most people carry a load back to town before IDing anything (unless you play solo, or are one of those people in a group), you still have to know a good base from a bad one.

Bad bases are especially worth picking up and not identifying, for use with the unid chaos/regal recipes. But, again, once you pick it up, you still have to have to know to not identify it. The filter isn't going to help with that.

This is actually the case. The changed behavior starts at level 70, where large items are shown, but not highlighted.

Yeah, in the next update I'm just gonna bite the bullet and make this stuff have a darker background. I agree with you here, though I am not personally having issues with seeing the stuff. (in particular, the white items seem to be the problem. I have no issue seeing the blue/yellow stuff at all.)

Well, I do plan on adding several preconfigured versions... I'll add them once I'm very comfortable that no more (non-trivial) changes are in the pipeline. However, they would be very broad (vanilla version, map version that hides all white/blues, etc) and as such it's still useful to have the customization tutorials.

There are a LOT of combinations of toggles, and I think that even if I put ten preconfigured versions out there, someone will want to change at least one thing. I prefer putting the power in your hands, rather than making too many decisions for you.

I hope all that makes sense. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you enjoy it! Thanks!

If you want to add some Neversink style rare highlighting, copy these two blocks in the spoiler, and paste them at the top of section 000h. You can adjust the DropLevels to your liking (40 is chosen as the "bad" limit, while 60 is the "good" limit.)

Basic 'goodbase/badbase' highlighting for rares

Show
Rarity Rare
Class Body Helm Boot Glove Stave One Two Wand Claw Shield Bow Dagger Sceptre
DropLevel < 40
ItemLevel > 67
SetTextColor 230 230 107 230
SetBackgroundColor 100 50 10
SetBorderColor 0 0 0 255

Show
Rarity Rare
Class Body Helm Boot Glove Stave One Two Wand Claw Shield Bow Dagger Sceptre
DropLevel > 60
ItemLevel > 67
SetTextColor 230 230 107 230
SetBackgroundColor 10 100 50
SetBorderColor 0 0 0 255

Huh. Verified... TIL!

I'm pushing a small update today, I'll make sure to remove the appropriate blocks. Thanks for this! I can't believe I never noticed that.
