Radeon 6XXX Card Making Game/Pc Freeze

EDIT; PROBLEM FIXED. THE ISSUE WAS BEING CAUSED BY THE VID CARD.

As the thread name suggests i've been experiencing this issue with the game. It always happens at random times(nothing stands out as setting it off specifically) so ill be playing, everythings fine, then all of a sudden, first the screen will go black,my pc will lock up,then the sound will loop for a few seconds and just cut out.

I cant alt-ctrl-del or close the window to go back to the desktop. The only option is to force a hard reboot.

I have read the forum extensively and have tried playing with my temp setting, monitering said temp, everything seems fine, i'm getting 90fps when i press f1, ive reinstalled and redownloaded the client multiple times,i've tried the pack check, ive tried replacing the oldcontent.ggp with the new one..nothing.same problem.

Since i don't get bsod like the creative card users were experiencing i dont think its a sound card issue. The only thing in common me and other users experiencing this seems to be that we all use higher tier radeon HD 6xxx series cards. I dl'd the AMD catalyst software to try to tweak the card itself's settings, tried performance on high, then tried on low, same deal, black screen, crash. I have run out of ideas,i'm sure we can get this figured out so i will update this thread if i make any progress on my end, anyone having this issue on their end, feel free to do the same.

I have emailed the Devs about the issue and got a prompt reply, they are not sure what is causing it but they are aware of the problem and they will try to find a way around it. As you guys can imagine they must be ridiculously busy so if we can come up with a fix on our own im sure it would help lighten their workload, after all, what are open betas for :)

My Specs at a glance

Windows 7 (64 Bit)

AMD fx 6100 six core processor 3.30 Ghz

8GB of RAM (3.95 usable)

Radeon HD 6800 series graph card

So if any forum goers know their graphic cards and have experienced anything remotely similar in PoE or otherwise please let me know. Great game, absolutely love it,looking forward to playing with you guys!

"We have the card, and have done some testing on it. Our tech specialist would be able to give real details, but from what I understood it looks like the card does some different things with priorities that can mean that processing power is almost entirely cut to some processes when Path of Exile is running... This isn't really my forte, but it does sound like we at least know what the problem is, if not how to fix it! I'll keep on their case so it isn't forgotten."

I'm afraid there hasn't been any progress that I'm aware of yet, sorry! We're going to be hiring a new engine programmer which will free up our lead programmer's schedule quite a bit - That'll let us get this fix in sooner! I'm afraid there is no set date yet :s

I think it could be a Windows 7 (64 bit) issue...

I hava same...

Is there anyone with different operating system and same freezes?
I have not this problem (HD 6670, Win 7 x32, 3Gb RAM). But i have another: horrible FPS drop in party.

"
sound will loop for a few seconds and just cut out

this look like a problem with physical memory.

so you think it could be related to the RAM or the HD?

So if im understanding correctly switching to 32 bit might help?

I have the same problem. Nvidia GeForce GTX 285M

What's odd is that this is my gaming laptop. My work laptop with inferior specs runs PoE smoothly with no issues.

We're still looking into this, anything you find is helpful! If you haven't tried it yet, reverting to a previous version of your drivers may solve the problem.

^ Thanks for the update Rory. I posted this in the other thread reporting a similar problem so i may as well post it here too. I have tried updating the drivers to the beta ones amd has put out,no dice. I tried reverting back to some older versions as well without any luck.

At least you guys over at GGG are aware of the problem thats what counts, its just a matter of time before someone figures this out. If i find a solution i will be sure to post it in this thread
