Why not make a Necromancer path for the witch?
I think skills like detonate corpses and raise zombie are more necromancer-like than witch-like.
Why not simply make "specializations" for each base class? This would widen the game a lot more. For example, the Witch could have the following specializations: Necromancer Warlock Illusionist Just putting an example. This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

Open structure of current class system seems to be much wider to me. A witch can still specialise in necromantic skills(and she will be propably the most efficient class in this field), but the player isn't confined to choosing out of a bunch of paths.
However, it would definietly help if characters were labeled depending on skills at hand. For example, if a witch is equipped with gems allowing to raise undead, she would appear as "necromancer" to other players. It would be much easier to assemble desired team this way, than asking everybody what can they do. |

Having specializations for classes would defeat the purpose of any class technically being able to use any skill gem they want. But their are requirements for skill gems that are easier met with certain classes then others.

Specializing while widening the game is kind of Oxymornoic. No offense.
Personally, I like the idea of being able to further specialize. I don't see why you couldn't have a Templar Necromancer though. He would just go about raising the dead differently than a Witch Necromancer. It would be cool if there were a set of sub-classes that we could tack on to our current class at some point. These sub classes would be specializations such as a Necromancer, Pyromancer, Death Knight, etc. |

I wouldn't want to constrain player-choice by forcing them on paths, but being able to title your character from a group of accepted titles, such as Necromancer, Healer, Frost Mage, etc. would be nice, to add some identity and attachment to your character. "Oh, he's a duelist thief." Where the thief shows he is perhaps focusing less on strength and more on dex and certain support skills.
