[1.2] Three Dragon's Spear Tentative Build, Post for Reference
This is a tentative guide for the 1.2 Patch. It's only a "plan" of sorts and is prone to change on release!

The purpose of this build is to use the unique item Pyre in conjunction with Ice Spear and Elemental Proliferation to proc reliable, powerful burning onto foes. Ball Lightning will be used as utility for Shock, Curses (on Hit), and Elemental Equilibrium. Pros and Cons: Overall: Pros: - Extreme potential for damage. - Reliable burn proc through crit chance. Reserved There are two version of this build. One version uses 2 5/6 links. The other uses corrupted gloves to get rid of one 5/6 link, and allows two one-handers. It is a progression; that is, you'll probably start with the staff version and move to Dual Doryani's once you get the gloves you need. Voll's Protector vs. Cloak of Defiance depends on rather or not you are running a secondary Ice Spear for Power Charges. Helm Rat's Nest, Rare - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) Nothing is required here. Rat's Nest has some nice Global Crit, but it isn't necessarily better than a rare. Player's choice here. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Mostly unresolved, but it will be your typical Life, Resists, etc. Armor Voll's Protector, Cloak of Defiance, Rare (Mandatory) - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) Voll's Protector is mandatory if you aren't using a secondary Ice Spear to gain Power Charges. Cloak of Defiance is perfect for when you finally go dual Doryani's, get corrupted curse gloves and don't need a secondary 6 link for Ball Lightning, and move your secondary Ice Spear to a 3 link. I don't think a rare will beat either of these. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Mostly unresolved, but it will be your typical Life, Resists, etc. Gloves Maligaro's Virtuosity, Asenath's Gentle Touch - Corruption: Elemental Weakness on Hit, Vulnerability on Hit, Temporal Chains on Hit - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) Maligaro's Virtuosity is good for staff users. If you have the currency/luck, you can actually move your Ball Lightning onto your Gloves when you have Asenath's with a Curse Corruption. That will open up your armor to be used for Ice Spear so you can dual wield Doryani's Catalyst. Boots Windscream (Mandatory) - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) The only option; it has everything we need. Grants more Curses, more damage, and more resists. Perfect. Belt Doryani's Invitation (Fire), Rare - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) Doryani's is basically best in slot. Has Life Leech, resists, increased damage, and is generally nice all around. Use a rare until you get one. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Mostly unresolved, but it will be your typical Life, Resists, etc. Weapon Doryani's Catalyst, Searing Touch, Rare Staff - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) Doryani's for when you resolve your Ball Lightning gloves and no longer need 2 6 links. Searing Touch or a solid rare work great until then. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Cast Speed, Spell Damage, Fire Damage, Gem Levels are the most important mods. Off-Hand Doryani's Catalyst - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) This is for when you can dual wield Doryani's. You should be using a staff otherwise. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Cast Speed, Spell Damage, Fire Damage, Gem Levels are the most important mods. Amulet Rare, Victaro's Acuity - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) A good rare will do fine here. Victaro's is Legacy and can't drop anymore, so this option only applies to the default leagues. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Cast Speed, Spell Damage, Fire Damage, Crit Chance, Crit Mult, Life, Mana are the best mods. Rings Pyre, Rare, Berek's Respite (Mandatory) - Corruption: (Unresolved) - Sockets: (See Gems/Links Section) One Pyre is absolutely mandatory. Good rare is fine for the other slot. Berek's Respite is Legacy, but prolifs Burn and Shock in addition to have some other decent mods. Rare Modifier Priority: Base: (Unresolved) Prefix: (Unresolved) Suffix: (Unresolved) Life, Mana, ES, Cast Speed, Resists, Fire Damage, Mana Regen are ideal. Flasks Magical 1. Instant Health 2. Over Time Health 3. Granite/Evasion 4. Granite/Evasion 5. Mana Make sure you have bleed removal in there somewhere. I don't suspect reflect will be an issue, but you can carry a Ruby Flask at your discretion. Passives

This is most likely the ideal tree for the build. Definitely subject to change, but I think it has the key concept down. I realize 92 is a bit high, but you can just take and leave points where you need to based on your situation at the time. Gems and Links

6 Link x2: Ice Spear / Ele Prolif / Burning Dmg / Added Cold Dmg / Crit Mult / Fire Pen, Optional: Empower Your damage dealer and your bread and butter. This is how things die. Pretty straight forward. You hit one guy and the world catches fire. Empower can be used in place of Crit Mult or Fire Pen, but I don't think it'll do more damage. Needs testing! Ball Lightning / Curse on Hit / Ele Weakness / Flammability / LMP or Increased AoE / Added Lightning Damage or Temporal Chains or Crit Weakness This supports your bread and button. This is your toaster (in all it's irony.) It makes your bread and butter so much better. This skill isn't to deal damage as much as it is to Curse things, Shock things, and activate Elemental Equilibrium. Added Lightning Damage is there to increase Shock Chance (20 qual) but probably isn't necessary. 4 Link x3: Honestly, the build is done with the above 2 5/6 links. These are added flavor and preference. CwDT / Enduring Cry / Inc Duration / Immortal Call Typical physical stop-loss. Nothing special here. Grace / Disc or Haste / Clarity / Red Mana Some Auras for good measure. Will probably need to allocate some reservation reduction nodes for all of these. Ice Spear / Power Charge on Crit / Faster Casting or LMP or GMP / Life Leech This is your source for Power Charges if you are NOT using Voll's. Life Leech for some added healing. I worked on a EB Ice Spear build independently and spent a lot of time trying to make it more efficient, basically came up with the same thing (minus EE, I always run with someone else). There doesn't seem to be a way to get more damage without traveling to the left.
Would you consider doing a budget version that doesn't need > 5 ex? By the way, for Armor I think you mean Voll's Protector, not Devotion. edit Just read your post more closely. I'm not sure what you mean by "These links need to be used with Corrupted Gloves that curse on hit. They don't need to be IN the gloves, but there gloves need to be there.". The only curse on hit corruptions I found were for specific curses. (See: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Vaal_Orb). Does this make it just cast all the curses? Did you mean Cast on Crit? edit 2 I can't figure out how you're planning to play with elemental equilibrium. I know that the burn from ignite won't proc it, but what do you plan on doing after doing Ball Lightning to proc EE, then using Ice Spear to put burn on everything? Keep running and hope it's a 1 shot? If it's not, it seems like Ice Spear would work against the burn by proccing +fire res on everything you hit with it afterwards. " My guess is that he's trying to shock w/ Ball Lightning & apply curses, so that when he hits with Glacial Spike it will have a high chance to crit, then burn for insane damage and Elemental Prolif it to all nearby enemies. |

I was thinking about a build using ice spear and ball lightning and yours is pretty sick :) I just have a couple a question. How do will you proc the burn with your spear ? I don't see any fire damage and you didn't take avatar of fire. How about the new version of Cold to Fire gem ? Your build look like it could use, in my opinion, lightning warp+reduced duration(+faster casting). A nice mobility tool to save yourself and to keep at perfect range for ice spear. I'll look forward to this build, i'll probably begin with a kind of ek shadow to build abit of currency and then try a similar version of your build :) I'll check it out on stream, have fun ! |

" Basically, you run up, Ball Lightning --> Ice Spear, and keep moving. The Ice Spear should/will likely hit between BL hits, so you'll have EE on either side of the Ice Spear contact. Even if it doesn't, the only target that would gain fire res is the one hit by the spear, which is probably dead since they took the full spell damage of the Spear anyways. And when I said you need the curse gloves, it's so you get 3 curses out of a 4l of Ball Lightning, Curse on Hit, Flammability, and Assassin's Mark. That 4l can be in any piece of gear.
