R9 series GPU - severe FPS drops
Hi, i have recently updated my graphics card to an R9 270x and i am experiencing the exact same problems OP is having. I have done everything the thread has said so far and to no avail. If there is any more information/trouble shooting ideas you guys have to help fix this problem i would very much appreciate it.
thanks! |

The good news is on the beta with my r9 I am getting 300fps with v-sync off so they do have a fix for this. We will just have to wait for 2.0 to go live.

Hello!
I have found a partial fix for the problem i was having. I limited the PoE fps cap to 60 using MSI afterburner and the fps drops i was having have gone. I still get FPS drops when i enter zones or when i load into a very large pack of mobs e.g a shrine. Before i capped the fps at 60 my fps would be around 200 but constantly spike between 10-200 when walking/idle/fighting and the game was unplayable so capping fps in afterburner was a huge improvement for me. I hope that this information may help anyone else who is having the same/similair problem! For reference: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4210122218 ^ This is the thread that i followed to learn how to cap my FPS in Poe. Just for anyone else who isn't a computer tech guy like me. Capping FPS is called vSync, your GPU driver has that feature too and I think PoE video settings include a setting for vSync as well.
Enabling vSync will cap the FPS to a rate identical to your monitor's refresh rate(HZ)to avoid "tearing" of images. Last edited by Startkabels#3733 on Jun 10, 2015, 8:57:05 AM

" If I recall the 'lag' experienced when opening lock boxes isn't so much a GPU problem, but a problem with access times on from the drive PoE is installed on. This issue is usually lessened by grabbing a faster drive. Preferably an ssd. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion
Have you removed Asus ROG/GameFirst yet? |

I installed AMD R9 390 last night. FPS spikes pretty bad. My older card seems to perform similar, if not better and it's about 4 years old. I skimmed through the posts, and i have not tried the suggestions yet, but it's very disappointing to expect a user to go through hoops of troubleshooting to try to get a brand new mainstream card to function properly with this game.

Same issue here, R9 270; even lowering res doesn't helps much, it's not even playing in full groups, just with one friend playing Coc/discharge i must stay offscreen or it's a slideshow (single digit framerate). My cpu is pretty old though (quad q9300 @3ghz), but this setup allows me to play cumfortably several games (mainly Witcher 3 and Rocket League, in 720p for the first one and 1080p for the second), and i think i saw posts reporting such issues from mre recent spu users (i5 coupled with r9).
I tried everything i could, lowering res to 720p, lowest details possible, caping fps, texture filtering toggled on performance.. whatever, no avail. i didn't tried older amd drivers, though i don't know wich ones i should try. I have 8go ram and run the game from SSD / win7 x64. running poe as admin, added poe folder as exception in my AV, etc. i planned to upgrade during 2016 for VR, but it's still pretty far away as i'll wait for the next nvidia gen (pascal), so i guess in the meantime POE is a mostly solo game for me :/ and even soloing i have heavy framerate drops/spikes under some circumstances, desecrated ground, large mob packs and spells going on. R9 270, i5 2500k. 4gb ram, fresh windows:D
Fps drops from 60 to 0 makes game almost unplayable- tried everything. Other games works perfectly. With my old gpu(gtx 570) i had 0 issues with fps drops. |
