R9 series GPU - severe FPS drops

AMD cards in general have had a lot of known issues

This is not true, it's the HD series that causes FPS issues and definitely not more recent ATI cards.

And also it's not the AMD card that has issues but the game that has optimization issues.

I'm not saying the game doesn't have optimization issues as well, but historically, there were MORE issues with AMD cards than Nvidia cards. As I also said however, most of those have been resolved. I'm speaking from the lifetime of the game from Closed Beta until now (which is a lot of time). Over that time, there have been consistently more issues with the ati/amd cards where as most of the nvidia ones seemed to "just work" (for the most part). The issues that plagued nvidia cards were also different than the poor performance of the ati/amd cards.

They both have had some issues, but there seemed to be a more difficult time getting the ati/amd working properly. More configurations, and to a degree it seemed like more luck was involved. It also doesn't help that the AMD guys basically refuse to talk to GGG while Nvidia has worked pretty closely with them. I think that also speak volumes.

I'm also partial to nvidia now because of other issues in the past as well.. but I think my position has been solidified that I'd rather support nvidia as a company based on my experiences and how willing they are to work with indie developers to ensure the games and their cards work together properly.

Do you play other games? Does it happen on them?

Yes I play other games, I've been playing Skyrim recently and it runs incredibly smooth considering the 4k texture packs, ultra settings and the 20+ mods that I'm running simultaneously. With my previous card I could only achieve a stable playable framerate at medium/high settings.

Path of Exile seems to be the only game with which I have problems.

Let's start with the beginning.
Are your graphic card drivers on the latest version ?
Can you refresh your Windows Experience Index ?

1. Yes, I've tried the latest stable and the latest beta drivers. Currently using latest beta catalyst drivers.
2. Can't I'm on Windows 8, unless there's a way to do that on Win 8 that I'm not aware of?

Follow these instructions :
Download MiniToolBox;
Execute it;
Check the "List Installed Programs" checkbox;
Click on "Go";
Copy/paste the content of the output log on PasteBin and post the link in this thread;

Ok, will do that.

One suggestion is ... since you upgraded your card from an nvidia to an amd card, you likely have nvidia drivers still hanging around. You should probably boot into safe mode of windows and run a driver sweeper to completely remove all the old nvidia stuff, and likely the amd catalyst stuff as well. Just start over completely fresh.

That could very well be it, but I also got an SSD and installed everything from scratch, so no remnants for sure.

Start with Drakiers suggestion first, why do you ignore that? Your list of installed Catalyst software looks messy...

You mean performing a clean driver installation due to lingering nvidia drivers?

I didn't ignore it, as I said, I did perform a clean installation of everything because my hard drive is also new.

Other than that I also used DDU http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html to upgrade catalyst 14.4 (latest stable driver - the one I had installed before) to 14.7 (latest beta driver) to try and see if there would be any improvement. There wasn't.

I can always try that again of course, but no I did not ignore his advice. Why do you say it looks messy?

Gtx770 and problem solved crappy lag now is the internet. Sorry AND something was just not right but i wanted to belive benchmarks were equal.

Now to work on internet! Just hit f1 in game.
Im having the exact same problem.

I had a hd 6870 before, about 2 weeks ago, that ran the game pretty well at the max settings.
Now with a far superior card I have inconsistent framerate and stuttering.

I already reinstalled the drivers and updated to the 14.7 beta, without changes.
My PC specs are:
AMD Fx 6300 @ 4.2ghz (already tested with stock clocks, no changes)
8gb hyperx blu ddr3 1600mhz
r9 270x powercolor turboduo video card with stock clocks
1tb wd hdd
250gb samsung hdd
OCZ 500w sxs power supply (yeah, im about to buy a better one)

I'm playing Tomb Raider, Battlefield 4 and Batman Arkham Origins smooth at max settings, even Watch Dogs is running better.

Someone solved the problem? Any idea?

i think every one of you has the same problem in common and that is the same video card driver or at least close to it. Video card drivers are generally just a patchwork of mess so newer drivers wont do anything for older engines...generally speaking. You may want to try downloading older ati drivers and installing them in lieu of your current drivers. This is just a guess though but seems logical as its mostly the newer ati cards with the newer drivers having these issues :/
