Hired Mercenaries what do you want for them?

In D2, they were simply extra auras. If you could give them skills in PoE they would simply be used for extra auras and culling. I really don't want that.

So, you want them to be meat shields? Or maybe some amorphous role that doesn't really exist PoE, but sounds good in theory?
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
God i would hate that idea. I just hate to babysit them. It's wasted time and effort to implement something like that.
I honestly hope this game doesn't get Mercenaries. It seems really out of place for the general pace of this game. I don't want a Merc to steal my last hits either. ;)

So with teaser screenshot #3 its very possible that we may be getting hired mercenaries so while the mini-expansion is still in development I thought it would be a good idea to get peoples thoughts on what they want with hired mercenaries. So to kick things off ill post a few things I would like for the mercenaries.

*Allow the mercs to equip gear maybe not an entire set of gear but at least a weapon, helmet, body armor, and jewelry.

*Choose between a set number of skills to choose from per follower for example a fighter could have a choice between groundslam, sweep, moltenstrike.

*Since customization is a big part of poe why not give the mercs a very small simplistic passive tree no highways just nodes like spell dmg, cast speed, attack speed, physical dmg, life, and maybe 2-3 unique keystones just for followers.

*Option to allow us to set if they are aggressive, defensive(attack when were attacked), or passive so when were just running through mobs they dont attack and die.

For me it would be a shame if we couldnt customize them at all.

im 80% sure that they are not mercs.

but since so many people is playing solo, it might be. it's interesting to note that in path of exile, where the players is invited to exile himself in the game, there's players who want even more desolation, asking for mercs.

Source on the 80%? I'm curious if that is a 'forum generated stat' (read as pulled from ...well you know) or something substantiated. I play solo mostly until my friends get on. I'm curious if I'm out of the norm.
Thanks for all the fish!
as ggg is always on the run for inventing moar orb sinks my hard guess is you pay/hire them in ingame currency.

maybe they get stronger the more currency you invest?
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

Nope... don't really want them. They're not needed in this game.

If they are like D2's, I'd hope that you couldn't remove equipment from them. Feel free to give them stuff to beef them up, but no take backs.

One thing I'll point out... there's no "mercenaries" menu on the new UI.

Well, can agree with that. If the games more deeply rooted problems were sorted, they could add an interesting layer of theorycraft and synergy, but in the current state, they're totally unnecessary.

However... since every decision in this games design is economy based... it would add a second gear set requirement, further incentivizing trade, and maybe reducing mid tier item depreciation, while increasing high end demand, and helps offset the drop rate buff that went in. Maybe that's their angle.
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
Full gear slots, same as a player.
Full passive tree that we control, no quest rewards though.
8 skill slots that we get to either set to on/off (like for auras) or give a percentage chance they will use them.
Their own 5 flask slots we control.
Have them count as a player for parties, so you still only get 6 characters max in a group.
Have them take their own map portal.
Resurrect fee that increases each time you pay it, not flat based on level.
Simple commands: hold position, stay close, roam, flee.
When I kill a man he stays dead.
