Is the BiS pursuit enjoyable for you?
First of all, as a kind of disclaimer, I am in no way saying SC is better than HC or vise-versa. Both have their pros and cons, to each their own.
That being said, I am an HC player, exclusively. I really don't know much about standard, other than the fact that I end up there when I RIP. I am not a frequent reddit user; I don't even understand how that site works. I did stumble upon the PoE subreddit, though, and something really got my attention. Threads with stuff like "New Best dagger on the server!". The crafter charges ridiculous mirror fees (100ex) to mirror this "new best dagger". My question to you guys is, is that one of the reasons you guys play softcore? To pursue BiS in every slot? Seems to me like there's a mirror worthy item for every slot that everyone even knows by name (I even know 'Loath Bane' now) and everybody seeks to gear up with those. Doesn't that take away from the fun of the game, like finding crazy loot and equipping it and killing shit to find upgrades? Seems very stale and homogenous to me, and that it would trivialize the content and make the game boring. Everyone running around with the same dagger would get very boring, very fast, for me at least. I dunno maybe it's just the top 1% that actually have this gear, but judging by the activity in the threads, it seems like quite a few people have these mirror-worthy items... |

Welcome to "why PoE doesn't need a self-found league." Enjoy your stay!
Look, man. Video games are hard, okay?

" I feel like SFL is very achievable and quite simple, actually. All you need to do is throw away your ego/e-peen, type /dnd, turn off global/trade, and play the game. Don't trade with anyone and don't party, BAM, solo SFL. |

Exactly! I don't really care about other's items/wealth. I play my game (slowly and rarely) and let others play theirs. If they play 10h/day, of course they will have lots of "everything" and probably want to have that single BiS item because they achieved everything else.
For me, it's already a big task to get into maps during a 4-month-league. Edit: almost selffound, because trading is not cool here and because the game starts with lvl 1. There's no need to rush to lvl x just to be there. Dynamit, Architekturkritik, die man tatsächlich sieht! " But people don't want solo SFL, they want SFL. They want to play with and against other SFLers. Just saiyan, don't mean to derail this thread. To answer your question: No. I play softcore because I like to derp around with glass cannon builds and because I don't want to bother with not dying until late game. And because GGG fucked up Invasion so hard that it simply wasn't fun :D Before that I've played a lot of hc and enjoyed it. Might do it again next season. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

hehe "BiS".... oh god...
man I lost that race long ago. RNG won. I don't know what "Best In Sockets" means, and you're talking about "Best In Slot"... I play SC because I play SC. simple as that. I also play HC because I play HC. SC for crazier, quicker, more glass-cannon characters. HC for tactical, slower gameplay. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun |

Yeah playing around and trying builds and stuff I understand.
But for people who play mainly in Standard, and only want to progress in the ladder, don't you think it's kinda dumb that all of the best gear is pre-determined and is already owned by a bunch of people? And that there is endless amounts of said BiS item floating around? To me, I guess it just kinda ruins the point of an ARPG, which is the RNG/Never knowing when some awesome upgrade is going to drop. |

Can the unpursuitable be enjoyable? Riddle me that

" Yes. There is beauty and simplicity in chaos. That is why I play ARPG > MMORPG. MMOs - All the best gear is known, everyone knows where it drops, how many runs on average you need to do of whatever boss to get it to drop. ARPG - Every day the bar is raised. Every day some new item drops and pushes the envelope. You can never be decked out in BiS or 'end-game' items, because there is always a better item, somewhere. With this stupid eternal/exalt/mirror bullshit, everyone has the same gear. Boooooring and very similar to MMORPGS. |

I did my BiS years playing other games. I just chill here and kill shit.
I'm not sure what i would do with a toon that made it to 100, and had full BiS for the build. Because there's nothing left to do for that toon. There comes a time thief when jewels cease to sparkle, gold loses it's luster, throne room becomes a prison, and all that's left is a father's love for his child. - King Osric
