Efficient farming of Dominus

@RampagingRabbit - you've got to be kidding me! Dual monitors AND a laptop to farm Dominus? Hell, I'm starting to feel like a rank amateur next to some of you guys - and I thought I was doing nicely! Perhaps I should sell my car and have a whole wall mounted with monitors to play this game! Geez!

@Sir Sid. Some nice tips there. As for the group thing, I've been invited along on some runs and the FFA sounds like crazy fun, but it's hard co-ordinating and by and large I enjoy playing the game solo. Must be the misanthrope in me - or is it the brooding psychopath?

I like to farm dom with groups; you can usually find one and over time you will see the same people and you can add each other.

When in groups I only pick up jewelry for the recipe (I have a page dedicated to unided jewelry), uniques, and potentially good weapons. (Claws and daggers are what I grab atm)
I will also grab a 6s or 5L or better if those drop for me.

I usually will fill my inventory on the last run then id and vendor all the non jewelry and good stuff.

When my page gets full of jewelry I will either solo dom or use some of my bad map rare drops to go on a chaos recipe spree (as items other than jewelry tend to be quite common).

If solo, I usually vendor most of the rares, and only pick up those or uniques. I will create one portal and take 2 invetories max.

It's important to note that if you need scrolls you can sell unided yellows for 5 trans shards then sell the shards back for a scroll.

I've been farming him very hardcore and quite efficiently lately, and I'm looking for more ways to farm him.


Currently I'm running a RF Maurader. With my MF setup (including Aurseize, Divindist, IIR/IIQ gems on RF, Andvarius, and some iir on my other ring/amulet), I can do 277/46 while maintaining 6k HP, max fire/lightning res, and 34k DPS. I can leapslam over to him, kill him, and sell 1 or 2 inventories worth of drops in under 3 minutes a run if I really set my mind on it (but normally it's ~4 minutes a run for chillax runs, or ~5 minutes a run if I take time to chat with buddies during the running/killing).

Realistically, you should never worry yourself over the blue drops. I just pick up all the jewelry and bank it for later recipes, and I pick up as many rare boots/gloves/helmets/daggers/wands/foils as I can, sometimes going for a second inventory if necessary. I don't bother with tower shields or 2H weapons. Picking up 1-2 inventories worth of smaller rares is efficient enough to give you a steady alt/alc shard income without hurting your dom running speed.

Don't feel at all amateur, I run an IT company from home so I have plenty of machines that could be used. I just find my setup works well as it all fits on my desk nicely. My computer has a Corei5 CPU, 16GB RAM, and an ATI 7850 Graphics Card. It's not an expensive computer at all and monitors are dirt cheap now. Really you could run 2 clients on one monitor, it just gets a little bit more tricky as you have to minimize/mazimize windows to swap between runner and MF chars.

I think GGG frowns on people using VM's, I'm not sure. I'm not breaking their current rules by using only 2 clients max per machine but it really was (for me) optimal having the MF char windowed on one monitor and the other 2 windowed on the 2nd monitor. I also really dislike VM's :)

Only issue with grouping is that you don't get ALL the drops. I've grouped early on and seen some items like legacy BOR and SoulTakers drop, but not for me.

The only thing I see missing in the discussion above is whites. I always scan the loot for white

Yeah didn't mention whites. I chance Gavels, Hubris, and that's about it these days.

Same here. Just didn't seem worth mentioning in my original post, which was already a little long! I try and stockpile the whites so I can accumulate and use 20 or 30 chance orbs at one time - makes it seem like I might have a better chance of hitting something decent!

You get 5x the amount of runs though, and if the group has MF, you could never pick up all the items anyway

Hmm I dunno. Agreed if you have a good group with a culler it can be faster but overall I feel I get more loot doing it my way. And like I mentioned, ALL loot that drops is yours :)
