LOL mtx pricing
" I was in League basically day 1 - and they've ALWAYS charged the same. They didn't change their fair and honest price listing... they did eventually incorporate more expensive, and exclusive skins (to an uproar) - but those are released very rarely typically on a champs release they have a bundle sale including an exclusive - and then often a holiday set of exclusive skins that they charge more than 5 bucks for. Ultimately I think a lot of the popularity of the game extends from things like a fair F2P model. Treat your clients fairly and they will treat you equally fair. I dunno, guess I must be off my rocker to think that way. And as far as the recipe argument? How casually and conveniently you try to over-step my basic argument... what do you tell your friends when you invite them to the game? "You totally need to check out this wicked game - it's very similar to Diablo style ARPG hack and slash - it's free to play and download - just if you get into it, and play for more than 100 hours, expect to drop 20-30 bucks for some stash tabs." -Isbox Do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that anyone ACTIVELY playing this game - longer than Normal - hasn't purchased stash tabs? Like really? Not lying to us here? Last edited by Isbox1#3280 on Jul 4, 2014, 6:00:41 PM

" Yeah I don't think he does. Anyone making the most of gathering currencies, trading, setting aside some gear for your next specs/builds, gathering uniques - you know: actively playing the game... anyone who actually plays POE with a little bit of self respect and honesty would openly admit that you do need to purchase stash tabs. There's that one guy - you know, that one guy that you can go to conveniently to counter what I'm saying right here and now about stash tabs... but other than that one guy, the vast majority of active POE players have and will continue to buy stash tabs because it makes a major difference in quality of life in this game. It is at a point that even advertising this game to friends you would actually mention how free it is... but if you want to actually play the game expect to drop some $ for stash tabs. You know it. I know it. You would just be lying if you argue otherwise. |

You brought up the recipe. I called it BS. For reasons that I gave. Do you really keep stash tabs of worthless 2h weapons for the recipe? If so, why?

" Because 5 of a kind gets you a "free" alchemy-type re roll - for example. I do it with wands, and shields (and potions, rings, amulets... come to think of it. I actually was doing it to high ilevel chest pieces at the start of Ambush league when I was looking for a good chest to 5L)... but if I wanted to build a 2H Axe build, specifically, and was looking for a specific 2H Axe drops in maps, and wanted to burn alchs also in attempting some rolls on those specific white 2H Axes - I would be able to turn in 5 of them to get a free re roll. That is actually extremely useful for anyone who takes the game seriously. You still haven't answered me though... how do you present this game to friends? Do you say to them it's totally and completely free - or do you do what I do and casually mention that, yes, the only "catch" is that you will eventually want to buy some stash tabs if they take the game with any sort of seriousness? Be honest. Last edited by Isbox1#3280 on Jul 4, 2014, 6:38:16 PM

I love how the last 2 guys stiflingly arguing that this game doesn't "require" you to purchase stash tabs... can't actually lie about it (actually - good on you both, that is honorable) even to further their argument.
Good for you both. Thank you for your honesty. <3 I mean that in all sincerity. |

I love how the last guy thinks alching a weapon and getting a free roll for every 5 is a good idea.

" Well - When I was playing my COC build, I collected (and ID'd) every yellow Imbued Wand that dropped - if I got a 19% spell power I would alch - which was not very often to be honest. I got a number of upgrades using the 5 vendor trades. Pretty sure you are selling yourself short if you aren't taking advantage of this recipe. In the new leagues, since it worked top notch for me, I'll be doing it all over again. But again: thanks for your honesty I really appreciate it. Last edited by Isbox1#3280 on Jul 4, 2014, 7:30:30 PM

An age-old argument that I've never stepped into. I will now, though I probably shouldn't.
I'll start with stash tabs. $15 for 6 plain stash tabs is pretty steep IMO. $20 (a $5 upgrade for the arithmetically challenged :P) for the premium tabs is still up there, but a better deal - convenience is usually expensive, but they charge less than $1 per tab more for that convenience. Put them on sale and the prices approach reasonable, and I've bought two sets that way. I didn't spend long without extra tabs, but without space was pretty tight. Not required to play, but pretty close to it. Now armor skins - head, gloves, feet, and body. Cheapest way to get this that I see is the Elite Armour Pack at $32. Holy shit! Buy the most expensive things individually (Demon Horns + Seraph pieces) and it gets over $60 for a single set. Then you can start adding in things like back attachments ($4 for a sheath, up to $35 for the Tentacle Wings), headgear effects ($6-13) and weapon effects ($3.50-28). That's all just for a single set. The prices on "cheap" individual effects are jaw-dropping, and frankly they aren't that visually appealing (though obviously that's completely personal taste). The prices on things that look good are disgusting. I'm not going to go too deep into pets and replacement skill effects. Other than that I'll just note that the prices see similar trends. One last note on these effects and skins in general - why are earth are what basically amount to color swaps priced so differently? Say scorpion pets - get a basic one for $1.50, which is really cheap. Ivory, Ebony, and Chrome each get slightly higher, but still well within reason. But you want a shiny red scorpion, or a shiny green one? Shoots up to $55. Want a shiny blue one? $110. WTF doesn't begin to cover it. That's the worst example, but you can easily see it in weapon effects as well. I've ranted far longer than I really intended to, blame my propensity for using far more words than necessary to get my point across. I'll just end with a few points about my beliefs. -GGG own this game and make all the effects. Being their property, the can damn well charge whatever they want and I've no right to force them to change. -Equally, I have the right to say "That's goddamn expensive!" and walk away. It is all optional after all. -That's not to say GGG don't need or deserve to make money from their efforts. They do. -But looking at value for the money, I just don't believe it is worth it. I was raised on consoles and retail PC games so I'm perfectly willing to drop $30, $60, sometimes even $100 on a game. But that's pretty much my limit. |
