Steam error: There has been a patch that you need to update to

Hey everyone.

Unfortunately this error is to do with Steam's updating system and currently the only way for Path of Exile to be updated is for the issue to be fixed on their side. We might be able to assign an email address and password to peoples Steam accounts however which will allow you to access the standalone game client using your Steam account details. We would just need to confirm that you do own your account.

If anyone would like this done you can send us a PM on the website using your Steam details to log in. This can be done by clicking the link on the right hand side of the login screen.
Just let us know in the PM what email address you would like to use.

Unfortunately as this is a Steam issue we are unable to say when this will be fixed I am afraid. I do apologise for any inconvenience this has caused people.

Hi Jared,

Thanks for the feedback. I knew it was a steam issue from the moment it started. I updated the native client and used that instead.

I thought it might be better to post it here, despite it being steams fault, as on their forums it would likely fall on deaf ears.

For those of you wondering why the data part of the download seems to just stop, it's because steam installs patches as it downloads them. The idea being to save time. To do this it loads game files, and writes to them. Therefore sometimes the download actually does pause to let the computer sort out the installation part. Hence why the progress bar continues to move even though the download bar doesn't.

If you want an example, after a moderate/large patch, PoE will load much faster than from a newly booted up pc. This is likely because the steam update process has cached a lot of the game content.

As of -now-, (I just logged in), steam downloaded a phantom update, paused for a minute, then downloaded and installed a 121.9MB update. PoE steam now works.

Good luck guys,
