cross league trading clarification please

Since I never play HC (wifi+Australia=LOLNO), I often suicide post-race characters to get their goodies to Standard. I imagine this would have been something similar.

What is interesting is that the person selling was willing to accept standard currency for an ex-Invasion item. Typically Invasion players (typically) are quite exclusive there and care little for standard stuff (usually because they're already swimming in standard wealth anyway, from all the deaths I should imagine).

So basically, here's the deal: as long as the trade is conducted exclusively on one league, it's all good. Even if the item being sold has to be 'imported' from another league.

The way I see it, it would be a pure standard-to-standard trade. The transfer of items (and that is what matters) happens completely in standard. The agreement just requires the player to procure the item in question by whatever means he has available. But in the end he obtains the item in standard and then trades it to you.

As long as there is no transfer of items in invasion involved I don't see an issue. I.e. what would be problematic is if you give that player standard currency to obtain the item in invasion (even if you only intend to die it to standard anyway).

What that player does with standard currency (probably trade it back to HC) is completely unrelated.

I think the issue is that it may not be desirable that Standard players start going over Invasion offers, then contact Invasion players and ask them to rip the stuff to Standard. If that is what the topic starter did, I can see why the Invasion player may have felt annoyed and decided to submit a report.

It does look like a deliberate attempt to circumvent the cross league trading policies. Does it matter on a practical level? No, not really, a ton of Invasion stuff rips to Standard anyway.

Of course you'd have to pay a price appropriate to Standard's economy, since it is a standard item the moment the seller brings it over via suicide.

Cross league trading's a nono because it can give an advantage to people in temporary leagues. If you do it you're a dick, since it's competitive and unfair to others.

Edit// But yeah, as Charan said. If it's all on one league it's fine. It's not really cross league trading if you're asking them to bring it to standard so you can buy it in standard.

Solidly in the gray area imo, which makes it totally fine as far as I can tell.



People did seem to think that this hypothetical situation was illegal a few months ago -

1. Buy a CoE in Invasion league using Ambush currency - 9-12ex at the time a few months ago. (Legal cross trade)
2. Rip the CoE to Standard intentionally. (the gray area)
3. Sell CoE on Standard for 70ex+.


Clearly this hypothetical is breaking the SPIRIT of the rules laid down by GGG. (that you cannot cross trade between Ambush and Standard, though I'm sure they're far more concerned with transfers going the opposite direction - ie direct illegal purchasing of temp league items for Standard currency)

In technical practice... no step of that process was against the rules. (going to ban somebody for dying in a HC league??)


It's certainly an interesting topic for discussion.
