A Question of Faith

If you are a person of faith, please don't read this post as in any way attacking or diminishing the concept of faith. I think faith is a beautiful thing, although in some cases the human need/quest for it can have undesirable results. It's basically forming a personal relationship with something outside the conventional day-to-day of our physical world .. something that you cannot see or touch, but only feel in your secret heart-of-hearts. Having the courage to find some kind of spiritual truth inside yourself, and follow it.

In some ways, faith can shine - a little like lighting a candle .. your own candle-light can unconsciously give others permission to light their own - they can take your little spark and light up, and pass that light on to others, and so on and so on ..

Anyway, my point is that faith can have a spark-point, and it can spread.

In some cases in history, peculiar little sects with what would appear to be outwardly strange belief systems spring up, and just as quickly fade away.

What I've noticed is that the community in PoE is not immune to this kind of thing, and furthermore that I have even somehow been influenced by it.

My moment of awakening was farming the merciless ledge (hardcore all the way, baby), and hoping to find a unique two handed sword. I have a strange brain, and when I'm gaming, it's almost like I'm talking to myself, and in this case I remember (for what I think was purely internal comedy) saying/thinking "Oh yeah, c'mon Chris, alfather, RNGebus, please baby, daddy needs a terminus est, baby, smile on me today, thank you RNGebus"

This was really just for my own internal giggles, I'm a weird guy. (No sword, by the way, [Removed by Support]) ;)

Anyway, I've noticed that kind of chatter on global - I'm not the only one. It's almost as though a bizarre quasi-religion has formed, birthed from shits & giggles.

What I'm wondering is ...

Chris - now that people are deifying you, do you plan to add a "T" to the end of your name ?

PS: awesome game. truly, truly awesome game.

The GGGods are not yet that bigheaded and disagree with your suggestion.

And yes, some burn like a candle and cause bushfires.

I sometimes sacrifice a goat / chicken / hamburger / bubblegum to a deity I prefer to think (and sometimes refer to) as 'RNG'. Picked the habit at other games.

Totally works. Got a 6l Wings of Entropy at Simon's giveaway lottery on my first week.

And it was bubblegum level. Might order some goats for Shavs/Crown/Acuity.

Heh. Back when access to the Closed Beta was determined by the notorious Beta Timer, you saw a LOTTA folks praying to the Old Testament ghod, Keysus. Bet they're now bowing to RNGesus. =^[.]^=
=^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

=-[.]-= sad or sleepy / =*[.]*= dazzled / =^[.]~= wink / =~[.]^= naughty wink / =9[.]9= rolleyes #FourYearLie
and i always thought complaining in the forum helps your ingame luck. or posting bug reports...

Goats do not find this thread helpful! Try sacrificing cows instead.

By the way, for those confused, I'm pretty sure the bolded part is the OP's point. Perhaps to put it more clearly: that the mock prayers to RNGesus asking for better loot are slowly and subversively becoming a more and more real thing, with an increasingly non-mock, sincere element to the prayers going out there.

Which is an interesting concept — and sounds like the beginning of a good, significantly-more-cerebral-than-usual horror movie — but I seriously wouldn't read too much into it when it comes to real life.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
